Today's the day you pull the plug on Googling cheap holidays and book that Aisho-cho trip. While there aren't many options to stay downtown, you'll find the ideal hotel a little further out. Suss out our 2 digs within a 10-kilometre radius of central Aisho-cho.

After a long day of exploring in the city centre, crawl under the covers at Hotel Route-Inn Hikone and APA Hotel Hikone Minami.

Still after somewhere to stay in Aisho-cho? Look into the Comfort Hotel Hikone, which is located 12 kilometres from the heart of town. If that's not suitable, think about the Hotel Estacion Hikone, 12 kilometres away.

Omihachiman is another place where you can sit back and order up room service like a boss. Located 15 kilometres west of Aisho-cho, it's where you'll find the Higashiomi Omi Merchants Museum and the Kawarayaji Temple. If you want to visit Omihachiman, look into the Business Daiichi Hotel and Green Hotel Yes Ohmi Hachiman. Or, you could stay in Moriyama, 25 kilometres to the west of Aisho-cho, where you can pick from the Fine Biwako I - Adults Only and Hotel GLION SHIGA - Adults only. Make your way 30 kilometres west and you'll come across Otsu, a regional centre with a population of 300,000. While you're exploring this neck of the woods, you'll be able to whip out your selfie stick and get your tourist on at Pieri Moriyama Mall, the Sagawa Art Museum and the Mizunomori Water Botanical Garden. Lake Biwa Bridge and the Lake Biwa Museum are a couple more attractions which are sure to offer up some photo ops.
