Holidays in Amara

When you see seriously stunning vistas plastered all over social media, it's hard not to get FOMO. So why not spoil yourself with a holiday in Amara and experience the picture-postcard beaches, coastal plains, forests and rivers of Romania?

It lies 100 kilometres east of Bucharest, the nation's capital.

You may like Lake Amara. It's a perfect spot to explore if you've got time.

If you've got plenty of time, why not check out a few nearby places? Ialomita County and Slobozia are 0.9 kilometres and 7 kilometres away, respectively.

Explore the countryside from a new perspective and sign up for a bit of tobogganing or mountain biking. They're both well-liked pastimes around these parts.

If you're feeling a little frayed around the edges, take the chance to spend time out in the open and go cycling. If it's not really to your liking, shore fishing might suit you better.

Short on time? Joining some guided nature walks, wildlife spotting tours, cycling tours and city walking tours will help you squeeze as much as you can out of your adventure.

Sure, it's rather nice to be by the water's edge, but it's a great deal more fun to be in or on it! Don't miss the opportunity to try your hand at the region's wonderful watersports, such as swimming and rafting.

Snowboarding is a fun, energetic way to stay warm during the winter. If you're still shivering in your boots, why not try skiing as well?

We're not sure how they packed so much into the region's art museums, history museums and craft workshops. Step inside and experience what they have to offer.

You'd be hard-pressed to think of a more interesting way to learn about the local area than by heading over to its open-air exhibits.

If you're hoping to learn about the region's past, why not take a trip to some of its castles, traditional villages, old towns, fortresses, historic mansions and historic palaces? Do a little research beforehand to get some insight into their historical value.

Familiarise yourself with the area's spiritual dimension by visiting its churches and monasteries. Take a minute or two to quietly reflect or simply observe the locals in prayer.

There's no better way to get to know a destination than to literally take a bite out of it! You're invited to explore the culture, history and personality of Romania by trying some of its most tantalizing food and drink.

This part of the world has a unique cooking style based on available ingredients and local tastes. You'll discover lamb and fish are two staple elements in many of the dishes.

When Amara residents talk to you about their favourite food, it's likely you'll hear ciorbă ţărănească (vegetable soup) or ciorbă de burtă (tripe soup) mentioned once or twice. These classic dishes are part of the area's identity and ought to be on any foodie's must-try list.

You're on holiday, so why not indulge in some clătite cu brânză (filled crepes)? It's worth every scrumptious calorie!

If you really want to see the big pitcher, grab the hopportunity to toss down a beer. Schooner rather than later! Awful beer puns aside, make sure you sample Stejar, one of the leading local brews.

Afinată (blueberry liqueur) is the go-to spirit for many Romania locals. Order one or two shots to really get the party started!

Look out for Tămâioasă Romanească and Grasă de Cotnari on the wine menus. They're popular local specialities for both connoisseurs and novices alike.

It's always sad to say "Ne vedem mai târziu" to Amara, but we're sure you will have had an incredible trip.

Henri Coanda International Airport (OTP) is the nearest terminal, 100 kilometres to the west. Make sure you leave yourself enough time to get there.

"Excellent location and main areas of the hotel great. Misunderstood (!) room requirements - twin beds resulted in one having a double bed (nice) and the other on a made up sofa bed (not so nice).
