Cosy mountain lake ski retreat, relaxation Scandinavian style

Our guests return each year to enjoy this clean and cozy home in the mountains. The light filled house boasts tall timber lined ceilings, a beautiful log fire, internal traditional wood oven (perfect for your favourite pizza) and a Finnish sauna to revive you at the end of the day. With 2 bedrooms the house comfortably sleeps 6. The main bedroom has a queen bed with ensuite and walk in robe. The second bedroom has a double bed and bunks. All beds are clean, warm and comfortable - bedding and linen is provided. Walk over the road and fish Lake Eucumbene from the bank or bring your boat and use the boat ramp at the end of the street. Or explore the numerous trout filled streams nearby for that elusive Rainbow or Brown.
Pets are welcome over the warmer months - between October and May. Unfortunately we have had problems in the past with pets being left alone in the house in the winter while people go skiing, and it is too cold for them to be left outside. Please note the garden is not fenced. Mt Selwyn ski resort is a 40min drive away and offers family friendly facilities. If you have hit the slopes and caught a fish you might like to take a drive to the amazing Yarrangabilly Caves. Picnic in this stunning hidden valley, soak up the history of this 100 year old mountain resort and take a dip in the thermal pool. There are several horse riding operators in the area if you feel like the Man from Snowy River experience. Or just relax. The comforts of the house can make it hard to leave the fireside. You may just stay put and enjoy the quality selection of DVDs, books and games. Take a wander on the 5km bush fire trail at the back for lovely views of the area. At the end of the day supervise the BBQ from the deck and watch the sun set over the mountains in the company of the friendly local wildlife. Coffee and the paper can be found just a 15 minute drive away at the Adaminaby bakery where you will find cream buns, curry pies, coffee and lovely fresh bread, there is also an IGA, the pub 'the Snowgoose', the bowling club and takeaway for meals and supplies.
Make yourself comfortable in this cabin, which features a fireplace and a Smart TV. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a DVD player is provided for your entertainment. Conveniences include a microwave and an electric kettle.
Enjoy recreation amenities such as a sauna or take in the view from a garden.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

A "Hidden Cottage" no Longer !
Not the first time I had stayed in "Piilo Pirtti", meaning "Hidden Cottage" in the Finnish Language. The cottage makes you feel like being in a warm cozy home where everting is clean and in its place. From the warm fireplace if the evening turns a bit chilly'; to watching kangaroos (yes they are wild) resting, feeding or the younger adult males jousting; to the many different birds which fly in looking for a nut or seed. A place where you can relax after catching your "trout" - fly fishing or trolling (mine was a brown on fly); or a day spent in the nearby ski slopes, and returning to your collective reminiscing on how your day was in the afterglow of the dying embers in the fireplace, and your favorite drink shared with family and friends. My second time will not be the last - the third time is already in the making. My family included my wife (from the Philippines); my sister (from Canberra) and my brother (from Salamander Bay, NSW). These are not just words for ad copy. They started in the mid-1960s my first visit to Anglers Reach when there was nothing more than a dirt track, many rabbits; a few kangaroos where I have stayed in a number of cottages over the years. But, for me there is only one "Piilo Pirtti" that draws me back for the charm, ambience, like my Grandmother's warm hug, the cottage draws me back for more. My wife and I stayed from 24/11 to 3/12/ 2024 and extended that by another 2 days - I was happy to share my birthday with family and the Hidden Cottage.

Great Vacation
Great Location, great property. Alex was fast and prompt with emails in the lead up and during the check in process. Had a little trouble with the wifi not working but that wasn’t going to ruin our stay though. We had only started our holiday when we were already planning our return next year. Thanks Alex and see ya in 12 months time.

From the moment we arrived we knew this holiday was going to be another memorable one. The location, the fire, the sauna and the lake were all just fantastic. Out of our 12 nights we had 6 trout feeds . The trout in in pizza oven with blood orange and shallots were definitely the best. Were looking forward to our next stay. memorable one. Th

We just loved this place, exactly as the description says cozy mountain retreat Scandinavian style. Everything was clean, in a mixture of old and new but all well maintained. It had everything that our family needed, including toys, books and games. We enjoyed the sauna and made pizzas in the wood fire oven. The community was so quiet and lovely to walk around. Lots of wildlife to look at. The cabin is not far from selwyn ski resort and the Yarrongbilly caves and thermal pool. The caretakers were also very helpful. We will be back.

Fantastic cosy cottage
Alex’s property is so warm, welcoming & lovely. We came to spend some time in Selwyn but the weather didn’t play nicely, so we ended up spending more time in the house than we expected. The board games & puzzles were a big hit, the fireplace In the living room the best place to play & the kitchen & bathrooms were well appointed. We also loved trying the pizza oven! Didn’t get a chance to use the sauna but would definitely come back to do so. Such a lovely week away!

We arrived with fresh snow everywhere. House was super cosy and well equipped for our family and ski adventures. This was our second stay at the house and had a memorable experience both times. Great pizza oven, lovely sauna and brilliant fireplace that makes it a wonderful place to rest after days skiing at Selwyn. Will be back again!

Cosy cabin
Had a lovely stay in this cosy cabin, fire was on and toasty warm on arrival. Had everything we needed and could ask for. Kids loved the games, the kangaroos and lyre bird and playing in the bush. The fire kept us cosy and the pizza oven was a hit for dinner. Was a lovely place to rest between snow days. Honestly felt like home.

Cozy, warm and relaxing
Dear Alex, It was so lovely to arrive late on Friday night and find the house toasty warm from the pre lit fire. Such a nice touch. Thank you. We loved our short stay. It was everything we hoped for in a little ski holiday with the kids. The house is well equiped, and we especially loved the finish sauna sessions after a day in the bush. Thank you Nick
