Holidays in Arsenyev

Yep. Primorsky Krai is kinda off the beaten track. But let's get real, who wants to do the touristy thing anyway? Besides, there's plenty to discover in this spectacular region (not least of all its impressive beaches). Set up base in Arsenyev and you can check it all out from there.

It lies 6,400 kilometres to the southeast of Moscow, the capital of Russia.

You'll learn about the culture of the surrounding area by going to the Arsenyev Museum of Local Lore.

The nearby destinations of Chuguyevka and Spassk-Dalny are worth having a look at. They're located 45 kilometres east and 60 kilometres northwest away, respectively. Jump in a car and find out what's going on!

If you're after something more energetic, you could check out the region's mountain biking options. Or perhaps mountain climbing sounds more appealing? Whichever you opt for, you're sure to have a fantastic time.

Spending a few hours outside in the fresh air can give you quite a lift. If you're feeling a bit stressed, why not slow down and go cycling or shore fishing?

Unsure what to see and do first? Often the best way to see it all is to hop on a couple of tours. The region boasts excellent cycling tours and city walking tours.

Not only is sky diving a spectacular way to enjoy panoramic views of the landscapes below, it also offers thrills, excitement and the chance to fly like a bird!

Eager for some fun on the water? Then put on your suntan lotion and take your inner aqua-lover swimming or snorkeling.

There's no saying just what you'll find inside the doors of the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries and theaters, but you can be confident it's going to be interesting!

Go on a relaxed walk and fill your lungs with fresh air at the surrounding area's open-air museums, open-air exhibits, lighthouses and gardens.

The area has a rich background. Devote a day to checking out some of the close-by old towns, fortresses, historic mansions and war relics and monuments. Don't stress if you can't find that much information available online — the locals are likely to have a few tales to tell!

Eager to add some deeper meaning to your escape? Whether you're looking for a spiritual experience or simply interested in learning about the local belief system, stop by one or two of the surrounding churches, cathedrals and temples.

Your eyes shouldn't get to have all the fun while you're in Primorsky Krai. Give your taste buds a little TLC too by trying the local food and beverage offerings. After all, you haven't really experienced a place until you've tasted its flavours.

Rye and oats are some typical ingredients in many of the dishes here. If you don't have a liking for them already, you may by the end of your visit!

Still have a bit of room after dinner? Then place an order for lymonnyk (lemon pie), a delicious dessert.

Life's not all beer and skittles, but there's definitely nothing wrong with kicking back with a cold one now and again. When you're in Primorsky Krai, ensure it's Baltika Premium Lager.

You're heading all the way to Arsenyev, so why not put in the extra effort to memorise a few words in the local tongue? It will make your whole trip all the more rewarding. Try to pronounce 'S dniom roždenija!'. It translates as 'happy birthday'. 'Xaroševo dnja!' ('have a nice day') is one more you might need.

Be sure to put the 12th of June in your calendar. To the locals, this means just one thing — Russia Day. A major day of festivities, this is an excellent time of year to check out the country.

"Uvidimsya pozzhe" doesn't have to mean farewell forever. Why not save a few Russian rubles for when you return?
