I've stayed at a few ryokans but this one was probably the most memorable.
The hotel is close enough to a couple of JR train stations (useful if you're using the JR Pass to get around). I recommend getting a cab from Atami or Kinomiya Station, as the area is a bit hilly and there are lots of twists and turns.
Luggage storage is available if you are like us and arrive before check in time!
We had a large group and we were very pleasantly surprised at how large our room was--and even more delighted that there were shoji doors to help partition it up. The entire room was very clean, and were were provided yukata for our stay (always a bonus)! There's an indoor onsen, as well as a rooftop onsen, with the latter providing an amazing view of the town.
Unfortunately we weren't able to book a kaiseki meal for dinner but if there's a way to book that over Expedia, that would be great. This would be my only suggestion for improvement for an otherwise amazing place.
Lastly, the best part of our stay was the staff, hands down. For those who are wondering, there are English speaking staff members (especially the owner's daughter who happened to graduate from the same Vancouver, BC university as myself and one of our group members), so no need to worry about that. :) She (the owner's daughter) was especially helpful and even assisted us when we had issues putting a transaction on our credit card.
Overall, this is a fantastic place to stay and I highly recommend it!
