Put aside some time to watch the sun set over Schillig Beach, 40 kilometres to the northeast.

You won't have to be on the road all day to soak up some nature. Just 45 kilometres out of Aurich, Papenburg Zeitspeicher is a fabulous place to get some fresh air. More idyllic surrounds await at Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park, 20 kilometres away.

If you're considering travelling further afield, go 11 kilometres southeast to Grosefehn. This is where you'll discover Reitscharde Landscape Park and the Peat and Settlement Museum. We also suggest swinging by Rechtsupweg, 14 kilometres to the west, for Luetetsburg Castle and Schlosspark Lutetsburg.

Norden, 25 kilometres to the west, may be worth a day trip. Use it as a port of call when swinging by Old City Hall, Erlebnispark-Norddeich and Ludgeri Church. If you need more persuading, other nearby attractions include Dike Mill Museum and Seehundstation und Waloseum.
