While it’s just an hour or so from the famed Margaret River Wine Region, Blackwood River Valley has its own fab wine region to keep you stocked up on wine made from more than just grapes! Around Balingup itself there are a handful of wineries to visit, and the wider Blackwood River Valley has over 50 vineyards and 15 cellar doors. You’ll even find fruit wines and cider breweries! But if you need a picnic basket to go with that, you’ll easily find fresh produce wherever you go, and the local bakery and shops are full of goodies to match. There are also delightful cafes around town for a coffee and more substantial bites.

Some unique locally-handcrafted items, like arts and pottery, as well as gourmet cheese and jewellery. There’s also a local lavender farm which is gorgeous, and a few nurseries selling lovely plants. Otherwise, you can simply wander through the local gardens, which are particularly beautiful in spring and autumn.

Scenic drives and walks

With so much gorgeous scenery, it’s hard to resist driving around to soak it up. You’ll be stoked to know that the Blackwood River Drive to Nannup has been voted WA’s best tourist drive, so don’t miss it! Otherwise, you can experience it on foot along the Bibbulmun Track – tackle either a short section or take days to do it all. While the sights are beautiful at every time of year, spring is a super special time when the wildflowers put on a spectacular show.
