Holidays in Bangula

Thrills. Relaxation. Thrills. Relaxation. Off to Bangula but can't figure out what type holiday you want? Don't get in a fluster! We'll help sort it out.

It's located 320 kilometres to the southeast of Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi.

You should always know where the closest natural escape is. Here, it's Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve, 11 kilometres out of Bangula.

Would you like to venture outwards a bit? Nsanje is 40 kilometres to the southeast of Bangula and Nchalo is 50 kilometres to the northwest. Hop in the car and find out what's going on out there!

Going to Blantyre? This destination is 85 kilometres to the north. If you're staying here a little while, make sure you check out St. Michael and All Angel's Church, the Museum of Malawi and Mandala House. Also consider taking a peek at CCAP Church and the National Museum.

If you're keen for something more adventurous, you could check out the region's mountain biking options. Or perhaps mountain climbing is more appealing? Whichever you opt for, you're bound to have a great time.

Let someone else take care of the planning and mingle with other travellers on guided nature walks, wildlife spotting tours and wildlife safaris.

Whether you're plunging headfirst into it, floating on it or hurtling across it, nothing beats spending an afternoon by the water. You can have a go at a number of watersports here, including swimming and snorkeling.

To really experience a destination is to sample its food and drink, so get set to nibble, gnaw, slurp and sip your way across Malawi. The only thing you need to bring with you is a good appetite!

A staple ingredient in the fare here is corn. Another is potato. They're worth giving a try if they're not a part of your food repertoire already.

While Bangula offers a range of delicious foods, don't leave without sampling nthochi (bread) and biltong (jerky like beef). Considered regional specialties, you'll have to add them to your must-try list if you really want a true taste of the region.

Still got a bit of room left after the main course? Then place an order for nthochi (banana bread), a mouthwatering dessert.

Gold Label brandy is what the locals have when the evening calls for something with more bite. Ask the bartender for a tiny taste and see if it excites your taste buds.

If you've got the good luck to be in Bangula on the 6th of July, get ready to party! Republic Day sees crowds of locals joining together to celebrate.

With just a little bit of your holiday budget left to spend, remember to grab some mementos of the stunning Malawi region before you say your final goodbye.

Located 100 kilometres to the north is Chileka International Airport (BLZ), the closest terminal. Ensure you give yourself ample time to reach it.
