Holidays in Bardo

When your boss is on your back cos you've chucked too many sickies, it's time to ditch the daily grind and say hello to Bardo!

It lies 350 kilometres southwest of Warsaw, the capital city of Poland.

You don't need to be stuck on the road all day to experience some nature. Just 35 kilometres out of Bardo, Pump Room is a popular place to get some fresh air. More picturesque surrounds are waiting for you at Zdroj Wojciech, 20 kilometres away.

Take in the views from the chairlift at Pec Pod Snezkou Ski Resort as you plot your next run. Alongside Harrachov Ski Resort, this icy wonderland offers some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the region.

If you're thinking about travelling further afield, head 8 kilometres east to Kamieniec Ząbkowicki. It's here you'll find Leaning Tower and Skalisko Zip Line Park. We also suggest trying out Srebrna Gora, 10 kilometres to the northwest, for Linowy Rope Park and Silver Mountain Fortress.

Klodzko Miasto, 11 kilometres to the southwest, is worth a day trip. Use it as a port of call when stopping by Stone Bridge, Kłodzko Regional Museum and Rynek. If you're still not persuaded, other close by attractions include Parish Church and the Underground Tourist Route.

Clothing? Check. ID? Check. But have you brought your appetite? With some delicious food and drink to try out around this region, it's the one thing you really won't want to leave home without.

Are you fond of beef? What about cabbage? Whether you're crazy about them or not, they are two typical ingredients commonly used in dishes here.

There's always a local recipe or two you have to try, and during your time in Bardo, kotlet schabowy (breaded cutlet) is definitely one of them. Knysza (pita bread with meat and cabbage) is another well-loved dish that's not to be missed.

You're not supposed to count calories on holiday, right? So it's the perfect excuse to treat yourself to Mmakiełki (gingerbread extract, nuts and dried fruit, strawberry compote and almonds), a well-liked dessert.

Experienced travellers often make an effort to learn a couple of phrases in the local tongue. They find that being able to exchange some words with the locals isn't just useful, it's good fun too! You may be glad you learnt 'Dzień dobry', which is how they say 'good afternoon'. 'Nie rozumiem' ('I don't understand') is just one more you may need.

Celebrated throughout the entire country, Constitution Day is held on the 3rd of May. If you're lucky enough to be here at this time, it'll be hard not to get swept up in all the action!
