Holidays in Behu
Yep. Wanderlust — it gets right into your bones. So, isn't it about time you organised your next adventure? Behu awaits!
From Behu, venture about 110 kilometres northeast and you'll arrive in the exciting city of Okayama.
Put aside some time for relaxing on the shore and admiring ocean views at Katsurahama Beach or Zenigata Sunae.
Make your way out of Behu and you'll enjoy some lovely natural sights. Just 30 kilometres away, Mount Noro is a splendid spot to get some fresh air. You also can't go wrong with Hyoutan Pond, 25 kilometres away from Behu.
Spend some time framing up the perfect photograph at Itoyama Park and Civic Forest Flower Park. You're bound to discover loads of things to awaken the artist within!
The snowy landscapes of Asahitengusuton Ski Area and Mizuho Highland Ski Area will excite powder fiends. Grab your ski gear and enjoy the fresh pistes.
The Nankobo and Imabari Castle are quite close to the middle of Imabari, 8 kilometres to the east. After more? Matsuyama, 25 kilometres to the south of Behu, has Matsuyama Castle and Across Shigenobu.
Sitting 40 kilometres to the north, Higashihiroshima is a place that has lots to offer. The Kamoizumi Sake Brewery, the Akikokubunji Temple and the Kyozenji Temple are all pretty close. That said, the Kamotsuru Sake Brewery and Hot Kamo are also worthy.
Delight your taste buds and fill your Instagram account with mouthwatering pictures by gorging on some of the region's fabulous food and drink offerings. Just make sure you hashtag 'yum'!
Looking for an introduction to the local cuisine? We suggest you get an appreciation for beef and noodles, two popular ingredients used in lots of dishes here.
When Behu locals talk about their food, you'll probably hear tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) or sawachi ryori (sushi and raw fish) uttered a few times. These specialties form part of the region's identity and should be on any foodie's must-try list.
You probably won't need too much persuading to take a bite of anpan (sweet roll), a treat that'll make you want to sever all ties and settle down here forever.
Great news, beer lovers. You'll be able to find some divine brews to throw back here. Enjoy a glass or two of Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen in a comfy bar and don't forget to text your pals back at home, 'Wish you were beer'.
Do you want something a bit more potent? You have to try out junmaishu. Ask the bar person if it's good in any cocktails and mixed drinks. If that fails, pick up a shot glass and drink it neat!
There's more to travelling than just posing for photos and trying out the local cuisine. It's also about the experiences you have with the people and their culture. Enrich your Ehime escape by memorising a couple of expressions in the local tongue. You'll be glad you learnt 'Gokoūn o inorimasu', which translates to 'good luck'. There's also 'Wakarimasen' ('I don't understand').
Be sure to mark the 23rd of December in your diary. To the locals, this means just one thing — Birthday of Emperor Akihito. A notable day of celebrations, this is a great time to visit the country.
Like all good things in life, your trip to Behu will eventually come to an end. When it's time to pack up your belongings and leave, say "Sayōnara" and spend your leftover holiday allowance on some postcards to take home.
Kansai International Airport (KIX) is the nearest terminal, 220 kilometres to the east. Make sure you leave enough time to get there.
