Extremely uncomfortable. Tiny room with no closet and very dark. Probably the worst room in the hotel (located right behind the front desk area). I travel about two to three times a year and this is the very worst experience that I've encountered ever.
Others in our traveling group were given substantially better accommodations and at the same price.

Liked: Staff & service
Pro: AC works well, nice friendly staff, experiencing Beijing Hutong lifestyle. Easy to find a place to eat.
Con: room has no window and quite small, good distance to subway station without luggage. Hutong is one-way road.
I really enjoyed my stay here. The location is great, in the hutong district, and the courtyard itself was pretty beautiful. The staff was also pretty amazing as well. You can book tours with them which is very convenient. There are also a lot of food and drinking options within walking distance. I found the hutong alleys to be just wonderful to walk around and get lost in. I found one bar in the alley just south of Lishi Hutong (the alley where the hotel is) named Alley Ale Tap room (Yanyue Hutong). The bartender Zack speaks english and the craft beers were pretty amazing so if you stay here be sure to check them out.
I liked this hotel. The interior decor is in a traditional Chinese style and very beautiful and relaxing. The fish are a good feature I liked. The rooms are spacious, clean, and nice. Logically deluxe room is best.
The staff were wonderful, always polite and helpful and friendly
The location is good, it is closely situated to popular tourist sites, many shops, and transport. Staying in a Hutong (alleyway) is a good experience in itself. Many people and activities to watch passby.
I had a great holiday enhanced by staying at a nice hotel. I stayed 2 weeks and hope can return in future.
Upon arrival hotel informed me that they cancelled my reservation, allegedly the night before. I did not receive any notice to this day. i had to pay double the price for another hotel (since my reservation was made a week in advance) and also for a taxi ride to another area. This hotel is on the east end of Lishi Hutong, you would best be served to stay on the west end as there is more to do and closer to metro.
I loved being in the middle of a Hutong. Close to Dongsi subway. Charming staff. The bed was really hard, but otherwise this is a great place. Their WiFi was weak, but I hadn't expected it to be, so this wasn't an issue. Get coffee inside the 161 Hotel a couple of blocks east.
The bed was extremely comfortable, the location was great (once we found it) and the staff were helpful. The only bad thing about our stay was we were woken up each morning by other guests as the room doors are very thin and let in a lot of sound.
Have stayed at this courtyard hotel several times and cannot speak highly enough of the pleasant and efficient staff. They always go out of tgeir way to make ne feel welcome.
The hotel could do with sone renovation , particularly in the shower rooms where the water tebds to come from the source rather than from the showerhead.i brought this to Managers attention so by my next annual visit i would trust this will have been attended to. The Breakfast is boring to say the least and I think it is time they reviewed the Menu.
Conveniently located near Wangfujing and the Forbidden City. an excellent cross section of Hutong life, with some excellent eating places nearby. If you enjoy a craft beer, nip down to Il Gatto at the other end of the laneway.
A very nice room in a good location. It was fun to stay in a Hutong although taxis were reluctant to take us because traffic patterns are tricky.
The best thing was the staff they went above and beyond to be helpful. We had trouble getting cash from ATMs and they took care of us until we could, so we didn't have to sit out our vacation.
Not all staff spoke English but made a valiant effort, recommended some very great tours (and we aren't a tour type), clean rooms, heating was very functional, all in all would definitely return!
I was in Beijing visiting my son, who has been teaching English for a year in Shanxi Province. This hotel was recommended to us by a Chinese friend who lives in Beijing and we were so fortunate to have this experience! The staff were very accomodating; many spoke English. I have new lifelong friends with the several of the staff. They were eager to please us, learned how to make american coffee, went out of their way to make us feel welcome and recommended several places to eat and visit. I especially liked that the hotel was in a safe area. I walked around by myself very late at night and was never worried!
We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We appreciated that some of the staff speak English quite well and were very helpful to us. The hotel is decorated in a traditional Chinese way and has a lot of charm. Especially enjoyed the rooftop patio where we ate our meals.
We were extremely upset and displeased to find that when we arrived to check in to this hotel we were told that they did not have a room for us. Despite having received two further confirmation emails from Expedia confirming our booking just a few days before. The reservation, which was confirmed by Expedia, was made at the beginning of April for a stay on 3 May - enough time surely to make sure that there was availability.
Although a room was found for us in a much lower grade hotel, we are not at all happy about this experience. We had to walk with our heavy bags (after a gruelling 11 hour journey) to another hotel on a busy street.

Great stay
Very nice place, helpful staff and great location!
Great hotel in an interesting location. We had two rooms. One the bathroom was very small with the basin in the shower cubicle which was not easy to use. The staff were great and were very accommodating with our very late arrival at the hotel ( 3am - and that is another story).
Loved the room set up with red curtains etc. close to a great Peking duck restaurant (Da Dong).
This is a traditional courtyard hotel situated in the Hutongs of Beijing. Tucked away down a side street in Beijing, you will see part of the 'real' Beijing. A narrow road that is bustling with Chinese life, surrounded by small street style eateries, shops and locals bustling up and down, this is definitely a place to come to experience part of what China is really like. The location is a little bit out of the central area and the nearest tube is about 10 minutes away. Once inside you are greeted at reception and you go to the rooms over a small bridge towards the courtyard where most of the rooms are. The room we were given had no window, but was decorated in a traditional Chinese manner, with an amazing bed covered in a traditional red cloth. The bed was very comfortable and was big enough even for me at 6'1''.

Cold room
Room doesn't have heater. My stay was terribly cold.
Spent 5 nights at Xiao Yuan and was pleasantly surprised. Fairly easy to find , even by foot . About a 10 minute walk from the subway. It's located on a side alley street . The front desk was of great help in getting me settled in , booking a tour to the Great Wall and advising how to get around Beijing. Room was large and comfortable . Upstairs restaurant/bar served good food and drinks and reasonable pricing. Service all around was excellent. Hotel location was close to the subway which is very easy to travel to most areas of the city . A great stay !!
