Welcome to Bethany Reserve Cottage (formerly Sonntag House) — a beautifully restored circa-1840 settler’s cottage where Barossa heritage, tranquillity and modern comfort come together.

Set directly opposite the Bethany Reserve and creek, and located on the Bethany Historical Walk (Stop 15), the cottage enjoys a rare position in the heart of the Barossa. Peaceful, green and rich in history, it feels removed from the bustle — yet remains just minutes from Tanunda, the region’s vibrant centre of food, wine and culture. Wake to birdsong, wander the historic walking trail from your doorstep, or let children explore the open lawns, playground and shaded creekside paths directly across Bethany road.

Lovingly restored with a sympathetic modern addition, the cottage retains its original character — thick stone walls, flagstone floors and a traditional wood stove — while offering the ease of contemporary living. The country kitchen is fully equipped for relaxed breakfasts and unhurried meals, while the cosy lounge with slow-combustion fire invites you to settle in with a book or a glass of local Barossa wine.

The cottage comfortably accommodates two couples or a family, with two generous bedrooms. One bedroom home to a queen bed, and the other a double and single bed. There is also a fold-out sofa for additional guests (upon request). Quality linen is provided throughout, and a modern bathroom, toilet and laundry are discreetly housed within the newer extension.

Step outside to a vine-enclosed courtyard with gas BBQ, perfect for alfresco dining, or wander the surrounding gardens beneath towering pink peppercorn trees. What a gorgeous cottage. We absolutely enjoyed our time here. The quaint features made the stay so much more interesting. The beds and linen were so comfortable…we slept like babes. The gardens surrounding the property was beautiful and allowed for an afternoon picnic with the birds. The location is awesome with hiking, winery and exploring towns in close proximity.

Beautiful cottage in a great location. Very peaceful and the queen bed was especially comfortable. The kids loved the deep bath. The decorative curtains on the windows looked great but unfortunately didn't provide any protection against the light in either bedroom. The only other suggestion would be to have some comfortable chairs outside to enjoy the scenery.
