From the road, this inn looks charming, but up close it was a different story. The room was clean on the surface, but the building has a lot of problems. It was nice to look out at the small river in the back, but the screen door fell off when I moved it and the chairs on the deck were completely covered in mildew. The refrigerator had water pooled in the bottom and half the electrical outlets were non-functioning. In a nutshell, the place is old and in desperate need of repairs. I don't need fancy and I don't mind rustic, but the maintenance at the Wayside Inn has indeed gone by the wayside.
The location is charming and the staff was super nice. I didn't realize there wasn't a tv in the room but i may missed that in the deacription. The only complaint i had was that the bed was really, really hard and uncomfortable.
Quaint historic inn in great location. Our room in the main inn proper was comfortable, quiet and homey. We had a delicious dinner in the inn, and breakfast. Will come again.
Attention to the details, beautiful surroundings and friendly staff. It is a old property, but very clean

Our first room was in the annex part of the property, and upon entering we were struck with a terrible smell. It was so terrible that within just minutes I was getting a headache and nauseous. It was really really bad. We tried everything we could think of to mask the smell, but nothing helped, even opening the patio door when it was 45 degrees outside and raining. We spoke with the manager/owner about the problem, and she very kindly offered us a room in the main building, which was incredibly kind. We were shocked to find the vast difference between the room in the main building vs the annex. The two were so different. The main building room was much nicer, albeit still a bit run down with peeling wall paper and older thin blankets, but we were so grateful for a room that didn’t smell and for the accommodations to move us.
Sarah and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast choice was good and the evening meals also cooked and served to high standard. Thank you for a great experience.
Stayed one night before heading to Cog railway the next morning. Cute and homely property with a lot of common areas to enjoy.
Wasn’t sure what to expect based on mixed reviews, but our room was great and we were super happy with it. We stayed in the main building, river view. Room was spacious, bed was large and very comfy ( seemed like memory foam mattress), heating worked great to dry our soaked clothes. Restaurant on site opened for dinner and hot breakfast was included which was a pleasant surprise.
The rooms are large, but the mattresses need to be replaced as do the pillows. Very uncomfortable. The internet and TV were not working. The bartender was super friendly and gave great recommendations. The included breakfast was a nice touch with a view of the river.
I was going to give this inn 1-star but after seeing the interior of the house, I added a star. Let me explain.... We ended up being placed in the Inn "annex". Never accept a room in it!!! It's a dated motel style room that really needs to be simply closed. As for the Inn itself, it's in real need of maintenance on the outside and the clutter removed on the inside. On a positive note, the breakfast was great and the room rate was great! I've attached some pictures of the "annex" area to help make my point.
