It's located 120 kilometres southwest of the country's capital, Muscat.

Al Hoota Cave, 40 kilometres away, is one of the best places to go if you need some fresh air and a peaceful afternoon. It's certainly worth the journey.

Travel 20 kilometres to the north and you'll find Nizwa. It's the home of some fantastic sights, such as Nizwa Fort and Nizwa Souq.

Whether you enjoy the sophistication of Michelin stars or gnawing on a simple street snack, sampling the local food and drink is one of the best things about travelling. So why not tempt your taste buds by tucking into some of the region's scrumptious offerings?

If you're scanning a menu, there's a good chance you'll see dishes with fish or lamb. They're some ingredients which are commonly used in the kitchens here.

You don't need to dither over the menu while in Bilad Manah. Jump straight in and devour some of the regional specialties, such as mashuai (spit-roasted kingfish) and maqbous (rice dish).

Still have some room in your waistband after dinner? Then put in your order for lokhemat (balls of deep fried flour and yeast), a moreish sweet treat.

Pencil the 18th of November in your diary. To the locals, this means one thing — Birthday of Sultan Qaboos. A prominent day of celebrations, this is an excellent time to be in the country.

With some planning, making it to Seeb International Airport (MCT), the closest airport, shouldn't be too difficult. It's around 110 kilometres northeast of downtown Bilad Manah.
