Holidays in 01. Budavár

FOMO, wanderlust, itchy feet. Whatever you prefer to call it, there’s only one way to cure it — jet off to 01. Budavár. No matter what sort of adventure you're looking for, this Budapest neighbourhood has lots going for it. Want to hang out with the locals? With around 1,700,000 people calling the capital of Hungary home, you'll have plenty of opportunities. Once you've landed at Ferenc Liszt International Airport and grabbed your bags from the carousel, 01. Budavár will be a commute of 19 kilometres to the northwest. From central Budapest, it's 2 kilometres to the west.

01. Budavár is a sightseer's wonderland. A good portion of the city's top attractions are scattered near this interesting neighbourhood, including Parliament Building and the Hungarian National Museum. The must-see sights of Vajdahunyad Castle and Heroe's Square are also easily accessible. While you're here, consider visiting other neighbourhoods to experience more of what Budapest has to offer. Castle Hill and Lipotvaros are some great areas that are within easy reach.

If you fancy exploring some highlights in central Budapest, head straight to Buda Castle and Fisherman's Bastion. St. Stephen's Basilica and Szechenyi Chain Bridge should also be included in any visit downtown.

Need some time away from the little ones? Get a babysitter and go to the Kincsem Park, the Las Vegas Casino, the Tropicana Casino and Zöld Pardon.

Stop at a few cultural places to find the real essence of the region. The Hungarian National Gallery, the Imre Varga Collection, the Invisible Exhibition and the Galeria Centralis shouldn't be missed.

Not much soothes the soul like an afternoon in an art gallery. Take the opportunity to reflect as you examine the fascinating works showcased at the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Applied Arts, the Vasarely Museum and the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Far Eastern Arts.

Sometimes it's the main exhibits that jump out at us. Other times it's a small treasure that's been relegated to a dim corner. Keep a lookout for both at the House of Terror, the Kassák Museum, Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum and the Hungarian Railway Museum.

There's nothing like the feeling of anticipation when a live show is due to kick off. Take your seat and wait for the curtains to go up at Hungarian State Opera House, the National Theater, Vigado Concert Hall and the Comedy Theatre of Budapest.

Kids are often wonderful travel buddies, particularly if you take them to fun places! For a memorable family outing, head to the Budapest Castle Hill Funicular, Palatinus Bath, the National Széchenyi Library and the Szabo Ervin Central Library.

Young kids have unbounded energy. Luckily, there are some places close by where they can blow off some steam. Vidam Park, eXbox Budapest, TRAP Team Race Against Puzzles and Team Escape are some popular choices.

Venture outdoors and delight in vistas at Palvolgyi Cave, Janos Hill, Szemlohegy Cave and Szemlo-Hegy Barlang.

Whether you'd like to sit under a tree with a book or have a laugh with some friends, the nearby green spaces are charming places to be. Choose from either Margaret Island Park, City Park, Europa Grove and Gorzenal Skate Park.

A trip away is the ideal opportunity to hit up the shops and grab a few souvenirs. Remember to stroll through Arena Plaza Shopping Mall, WestEnd City Center, Great Market Hall and Corvin Plaza!

The surrounding historic attractions will give you an illuminating glimpse into the area's past. The Liberty Statue, Szechenyi Istvan Square, the Semmelweis University and the Eotvos Lorand University have plenty of stories to tell.

Whether you want to learn some more about the region's spiritual side or simply take in the beautiful atmosphere, get going to the Dohany Street Synagogue, Matthias Church, Inner City Parish Church and Medieval Jewish Chapel.
