We stayed for 2 nights in Casa Zapote. It's the "tiny house" concept. The exterior is nice as it's literally in the woods. But the interior is a big disappointment. Facilities are basic, and clearly not designed for comfort or charm. The biggest problem was the unbearable smell of sewage due to the typical poor plumbing job coming from the bathroom. We kept the bathroom door closed the entire time, and dread having to use it. We brushed our teeth at the kitchen's sink to avoid the bathroom. The kitchen was greasy and not clean. It's nice that the cook made our breakfasts on site, but we didn't enjoy the food because of the unsanitary kitchen. The floor and table tops were very dusty. Due to Covid, our check in was contactless. The message on the door instructed us to use "the phone on the table" to communicate with Casa Kaan's staff when we arrived, but there was no phone. Due to the location, our own cell phones had no signal. We used wifi, which was fortunately fast, to text with the staff, who was nice and responsive. Given the location and facilities, the rate is much too high. But to visit Calakmul, other local hotels in Xpujil appeared to be worse. You may want to do more research for better alternative.
