We are planning to live in Bali for a while and have been through a few short terms villas while looking for a long term rental. This one looked like it had space and a kitchen and met our needs and had reasonable reviews, but was well below expectations especially in terms of cleanliness. To sum it up we paid for 9 days and stayed for one. It was an expensive stay for one night ! No internet or phone, which was apparently not the fault of the villa, but the cleanliness was not even close to to a 4 star standard - yes there were the factors that make up a 4 star place (appliances, pool, massage, "wifi", dvd etc). But the kitchen sink smell was not nice, food scraps in the sponge, food over the microwave, dirty cupboards, mouldy smelly room, urine smell in bathroom, filthy and old couch, heaps of mozzies... i've stayed in backpackers and hostels that have great cleanliness, and are much much cheaper. The villa would not refund us any money just on our need for the internet. I hadnt discussed cleanliness aspects as this is just a given for a place in this price range, and since there are only 2 villas here it is not like we could move to another which was much better. This was a learning experience for us and have since visited villas before booking and inspected to assess the photo-shopping that often occurs.
