Disappointing

I emailed the hotel a few days prior to our stay and asked them if they could put a bottle of champagne and balloons in the room as it was my husbands birthday and I wanted to surprise him. They emailed back and said that wouldn’t be a problem and they would see to it. When we arrived there was nothing in the room. I enquired at reception and they said they had no note of any special request. I showed them the email correspondence and was met with a blank look and a bland apology. Otherwise the hotel is ‘ok’, clean and quite comfortable but the walls are like paper. You can hear everything!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Crown and Mitre Hotel in Carlisle. The building itself is full of character, with beautiful historic charm and a warm atmosphere that makes you feel welcome from the start. The staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to help and provide recommendations. My room was spacious and comfortable, and I appreciated the little touches that made it feel inviting. The location is excellent, right in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore Carlisle on foot. Overall, a lovely experience — I’d happily stay here again.

There was a Belgium airline called SABENA, like many I had no choice but to use them, it used to stand for Such A Bad Experience Never Again and this sums up this hotel. Positives: The receptionists were outstanding Negatives: I can list them so many, will never return even if offered a free night

This was our second time staying here. This time we stayed in the annex to have a refurbished room. The room was very clean; however the building entrance in the annex and halls are in need of a good cleaning and regular maintenance. The halls smell of cigarette smoke due to the number of people smoking outside the entrance and may be worsened by the fact that the door doesn’t close properly. Staff are very friendly, and both check in and check out were super simple and easy. I did find perhaps due to the location of our room that it was very noisy late at night and early morning just outside our windows.

It was close to major attractions in the town. Parking was included but the lot is not that big so you may have to find parking elsewhere if full, but it was secured with a gate.
