The hotel is simple. Very clean. The balcony very narrow. Bad marks for the proprietor. We arrived early, expecting to be able to leave our cases and return when our room was ready, as we have done very often before. We were met by the owner, who was very aggressive, almost shouting that we couldn’t have a room until three o’clock and telling us repeatedly that our cases would be just behind a curtain and that he took no responsibility for them. This bullying attitude appeared in the ‘Internal Rules’ in the book in the room, where there were the amazing statements that if we were not out of the room by 11:00 our things would be removed, and that anyone taking food away from breakfast would be charged twice. His wife and other staff were pleasant, but typical of him, when we left he simply presented the bill to be paid without an ‘au revoir’ or a ‘Bon voyage’ or even a question whether we had enjoyed our stay. He is what we up north would describe as a misery. Despite him, we had an enjoyable stay.
