Very good

Only one night in this lovely hotel in a beautiful hill top village. Our room was gorgeous with a four poster bed, the spa was the best I have experienced , staff friendly and attentive to our needs and breakfast was tasty and enough to satisfy the biggest appetite. Grazie for a wonderful stay to the whole team at IL convento.
We loved the hotel, we actually extended our stay another night. We didn't have a car and it is definitely off the beaten path. We used the local bus and many taxis to get to La Spezia. Very nice and helpful staff.
The hotel was supposed to be only 2 miles from La Spezia. It was 8 miles up a windy mountain road. The bed was like sleeping on a piece of wood. There was only one restaurant anywhere nearby. Do not stay here if you are visiting Cunque Terre.
Don't be put off by the name ! Its not a convention hotel at all but a boutique hotel high up in a charming little village with great rooms and great staff, this is a real little find the building is full of character having stood for hundreds of years and the cobbles outside are reckoned to be close to a thousand years old, don't expect 24 hour room service or loads of staff just a great well priced boutique hotel, the locals are great especially in the little restaurant 25 meters away

Great, but without a car forget about it!
This hotel is a great find - after spending 3 weeks in Italy at all the major cities, North of and including Rome, this was the first small town we stayed at in Italy, and we're glad we did! But if you don't have a car, forget about coming here - it would be a nightmare - it is at the top of a mountain - but that gives it a great outlook. The town itself is tiny, so come here to disconnect (no wifi). The room however is a good size, and they are the first place in Italy that gave us free parking! There is also a great pizzeria 10m away - the best pizza we had in all of Italy!!!

Not in the Cinque Terre!
This hotel is in Vezzano Ligure and not Vernazza Ligure, which is part of the Cinque Terre! The hotel is in a different town halfway between the Cinque Terre and another valley. It was a beautiful location, but it was not where we wanted it to be. The hotel was in a little town in the middle of nowhere. We thought the pool and sauna were a part of the hotel, but they were not. Some of the views were okay, but they were not great. The people in the town were great, but the hotel was not what we expected. The bed was not great either.
Dont understand the rave reviews about this place. Typical old Italian hotel, very very basic, uncomfortable bed, poor shower and iffy wifi. Staff lovely, town, lovely, nice places to eat nearby, but at the end of the day you pay for a room and a nights sleep, not the view and neighbourhood
Attractive decor and helpful staff made our stay comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfasts and ate at the hotel restaurant for a couple of evenings. Food good but limited variation in the menu. An excellent base to explore the coast and easy access to Cinque Terre but you do need a car to get to places and to the railway station in La Spezia.
Very rewarding experience, our only minor complaint is that there were no comfortable chairs in bedrooms, breakfast room or lobby. Staff was great and dinner in restaurant very superior to most hotel food. The town, Vezzano, is tiny and a welcome, charming reapite for the weary traveller.
I was looking forward to staying in this hotel as the pictures of the rooms looked very attractive. Indeed the room was very smart and stylish, the bed was vast and comfortable enough and the room was kept beautifully clean and fresh throughout our stay. However despite the style the hotel was slightly boring to stay in, the service provided by the reception staff was minimal, the garden was poorly kept and, a big problem for me, because the air conditioning barely functioned and the room fridge was heating the wardrobe the room was hot. The village is lovely with some amazing views and the food and service in the nearby pizzeria is great.
We arrived around midnight and they were waiting for us and even helped us park our car
Unfortunately we had to leave early to catch a ferry to cinqueterre
The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The room was spotless with a nice view over the internal courtyard. All the main sights were within a 5 minute walk. A huge choice at the buffet style breakfast. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a city break in Verona.
I was really happy with the quality of my room. It had a beautiful rustic look and had a wonderful view of the hills outside. Staff was great. Breakfast was good. Worth the price.
Hotel is situated near the top of mountain and the views are fantastic! Feels like you have travelled back in time. Dinner very reasonable and a bottle of wine was only 6 euro :)
A little off the beaten track, it was dark and we chose it as it was" close" to the airport, and we where heading north to Como the next day . we rang ahead to say we would be late booking in due to the fligt time and the staff where polite and helpful
. Ariving late there was no food available , however the breakfast which was in cluded in the price per night was plentiful with much choice, we ate on the terrace ( there was also an indoor beakfast room) the veiw from here looked down the valley which was lovely the only thing that spoilt it was the overloaded bins just below the terrace
other than that a pleasent stay for 1 night .
It was difficult to locate even with an uptodate sat Nav

Not what was expected.
Maybe I should have read where this hotel was because we had a long drive up out of town to get to it and was not expecting that. Also, the staff is very limited in english and we did not get a good night sleep. It seems IKEA is the bed of choice in a lot of places and this one was hard. We did eat a the restaraunt next door and it was delicious, but we will not go back to this hotel.

Far Away From Everything...
When I booked this hotel, I specifically typed Vernazza in the city search of [...]. Since Vernazza is one of the five cities that comprise the Cinque Terre, I hoped we would be in a central location. Not only is it not located in Vernazza, it's twenty minutes from the train station in La Spezia (which is the nearest town to the Cinque Terre and a short train ride away). Buses from the hotel are fairly cheap to get to the station ($1 euro per person/each way), but they run a highly irregular schedule in the afternoons. We ended up traveling via taxi on several occasions. Taxi's are fairly pricey - running anywhere from $25 to $40 euro each way. (Note that a taxi coming to pick you up at the hotel will likely charge you the higher end of the rates listed above because they seem to start the meter before they picked us up - I believe to account for the time it took to drive up the hill to get us). If you like being away from everything, this hotel is clean and has a nice breakfast buffet. However, I would not stay here again merely based on the location and the cost and time to travel back and forth. Hotel staff is friendly, but their is English is fairly limited. There are two restaurants next door (one is a Pizzeria, and the other serves traditional cuisine from the Liguria region). Both are worth trying if you decide to make the trek to this hotel. Cinque Terre is a great place for hiking and sight seeing, but don't stay here if that's where you want to end up!

Home away from Home in Italy
I stayed at Al Convento for 5 nights whilst visiting the Cinque Terre region August/September 2009. This hotel is charming, clean and quite comfortble, although my bed was a bit on the firm side ouch! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good - yoghurts, fruit, cold meats & cheeses, bread and cakes etc, sufficient to start you on a big day exploring. The bus to La Spezia stops at the top of the street and takes about 20 minutes to Piazza Domenico Chiodo. From here you can take a walk up Via Del Prione to the station and catch the train to the cinque terre. Alternatively walk through the park at Piazza Domenico Chiodo down to the harbour and catch the ferry to Cinque Terre. Seemed a bit of a trip back to the hotel on the days I was tired but it was really nice to walk the cobbles to the door and into my cosy room. The Restaurant meals were lovely. Fresh fish from the local market, nice atmosphere. Good memories!!!

Don't take spa for granted
We booked the room a long time in advance to make use of the spa facilities. When we arrived we tried to get day access to the spa as specified in hotels.com. We were informed that this was wrong, price was per hour. On insisting, we were told they were fully booked for the day. On insisting further, we were finally offered 2 hours the next morning, but we had to leave and could not make use of the spa. As a note they are still selling day access to the spa on hotels.com. Additionally the garden closes in the evening and our room was not ready on time. All in all a bad experience.
