Over being an armchair traveller? Keen to experience the real deal? Cheresh is the perfect place to start. You'll find it among the breathtaking forests, rivers, streams and lakes of Kemerovo Oblast. (You might have to step off the beaten path a little, but that's what travelling is all about!)

Russia's capital city, Moscow, is situated 3,100 kilometres to the northwest of Cheresh.

The Novokuznetsk Literature and Memorial Museum F.M. Dostoyevsky and Kuznetsk Fortress Historical and Architectural Museum are not far from the centre of Abagurovskaya Ploshchadka, 16 kilometres to the southwest. Looking for more? Maloetazhka, 20 kilometres to the west of Cheresh, is home to the 7th Morning Musical Theater and the Novokuznetsk Puppet Theater Skaz.

Ostrovskaya Ploshchadka, 25 kilometres to the west, is a great little excursion You can use it as a base when stopping by the Gallery of Siberian Art, the Novokuznetsk Art Museum and the History Museum of Siberian State Industrial University. If you need more convincing, other close by sights include the Memorial Museum of Military and Labor Glory of Kuznetsk Metallurgists and the Novokuznetsk Drama Theater.

If you're feeling on edge, take the chance to go picnicking. Alternatively, bird watching might be more to your taste.

Spend a few hours indoors inspecting the hidden gems of the region's art museums, history museums and theaters.
