We had a nice stay at Widness Inn. The staff were welcoming, warm and friendly. The total decor is good; however, a couple of things prevent me from giving this a 5-star review. My meal was not good. My dish was over-salted, almost inedible. If I had been in a different company, I would have sent it back. The people dining with me made similar negative comments about their food. The upstairs corridors to the rooms are poorly lit. At breakfast, there was only a choice of small plates as large plates had run out. It's a shame, as everything else was fine.

The property is great, but window need to be upgraded to change double glazing. It was cold this time of the year, and I wonder how it will be during the winter? I was able to sleep with the heater that was provided in the room.

The property was convenient as a base to go sightseeing, the restaurant was really easy for evening meal. The staff at reception and dining room very helpful and tried to help accommodate our requests noting one person was elderly and disabled. I thought I had book a hotel that was accessible , I rung hotel from AU prior to arrival , The team tried to help us as best that they could. unfortunately our first room was up a flight of stairs without lift access, there was a step into bathroom. This was hard for disabled person having to use crutches to walk. Reception helped by moving us to the new part of the building with a lift on our 2nd night unfortunately the shower was over a bath no grab rails disabled person could not use. The room was very far away from the lift also difficult for a person with limited mobility. On discussion about concerns , we were offered a room with a shower but it meant there was only a double bed. I had requested twin rooms because I was travelling with an elderly parent. The disable parking was not near the entry points also difficult for a person with Mobility issues. Overall, it’s a nice place to stay but for a person with Mobility issues it may not be the right place to stay.

First of all we had paid for our room in total. Only to be asked at check in for £50per night which was £100. Just incase. We thought that was out of order. Got to our room very dusty, shower was limescaled and not very clean. The bathroom ceiling had black marks all over, the door did not lockThere was a fan in the room that was broken,the window only opened a couple of inches. It was very hot in the room. First morning we weren't told where breakfast was. First day tea and coffee flowing. Day we were leaving no orange juice,no tea and coffee on tap as the first day. Not enough staff there were 2 to cover breakfast which wasn't even close to enough. Would not recommend and will not return. Check in and out staff were off no welcome. When we checked out we told there was an outstanding payment of £20.00 we asked what for she said we had 2 extra breakfasts which we did not.so didn't have to pay. We would get the money we paid 100.00 back in 3-5 days.

Lovely hotel with great service

Wildes is a lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, they couldn’t do enough for us. Beautiful room, lovely food and all that you would want from a hotel. Good price too! We were visiting the local area and it was perfect, easy access from the M1, we went to local places, I golfed and my Wife went to Meadowhall. Will definitely use again on the next trip.

Excellent stay.

Room was very clean with a big comfy bed, we did have a leak in the ceiling which left us with a small damp patch on the quilt when we got back to the room at night. Breakfast was lovely!!

Could have been such a lovely stay.

Stayed at Wildes Inns for a family wedding and have to say that, unfortunately, we would not return. The venue was beautiful for the wedding and everything was lovely but the room was very small and exceptionally hot meaning we barely slept. We had also paid £50 extra to take our dog with us but she was in distress as it was far far too hot. We were two floors up with no lift available and the heat intensified as you went up the stairs. I appreciate air con may not be possible in an old building but maybe portable units should be in those rooms. Housekeeping did give us an extra fan but this wasn’t great. I couldn’t go for the included breakfast as we could not have left her to go for breakfast and just wanted to get out of the room as soon as possible as it was just breathless. I have now on return had the £50 holding charge taken from my account that my card number was taken for on check-in that I was told was a hold for if we charged anything to our room, which we didn’t. (Taken, not showing as pending) Such a shame as this really could have been a lovely stay but it was just really really spoiled by a number of things. My biggest take away I can give to others is please do not book this hotel with pets in summer, the temperature these rooms reach is not suitable.

We had a great stay

The staff were lovely, helpful, visible and polite. The food was great for the 50% off which it was that day. The restaurant, reception and room no complaints at all. The only thing I could say to improve would be the stairwell to the rooms wasn’t hoovered and didn’t look like it had been for a while. The carpet was also ripped in a couple of places.

Accommodation was fine Food was a totally poor experience Was a birthday celebration with family We ordered steak which was of very poor quality We were asked how we would like our steak cooking There was lots of confusion regarding which steak was for which diner on arrival at the table One member of the group requested his steak to be blue which it clearly wasn’t on arrival The waiter did return it to kitchen but were were then told there was no more steak available so he ordered ribs which again was of very poor quality and very small portion It was a very poor service overall When the young waiter bought the starters he couldn’t identify between prawns and calamari Surely that is down to training As if that wasn’t enough our daughter messaged us to ask if we were enjoying the meal She stated that she has emailed , rung and paid £36 for a bottle of wine that she hoped would be presented with our meal as a surprise This request was never carried out We were not difficult customers we just wanted to enjoy the experience Jake who I believe was one of the managers did understand and reassured us that our concerns would be followed up He personally rang my daughter and apologised and refunded my daughter He was most apologetic and dealt with the issues very professionally
