Not what we expected
Bathroom situation not as described (2 1/2 baths), only one bathroom in the apartment. Apartment is upstairs, barbecue for use is on the owners patio area, no deck or seating for the apartment, kind of unusual and awkward to use the barbecue and patio, the apartment is over a three car garage and the garage door motors were always vibrating the apartment. The setting and property were beautiful but the facilities were not as described and not the type of property I would have rented had I known. .

Great spot for a long weekend getaway
The place is extremely clean and well-maintained, equipped with everything you might need. Sue and John take wonderful care of the property, ensuring it is perfectly ready for guests. John even prepared a bonfire for us! The property is located about a 20-minute drive from Lake George, right on the Hudson River. It’s a beautiful setting, perfect for those who want to be close to nature and avoid the crowds at Lake George, yet still be within a reasonable distance. It’s also an ideal spot for trips to Lake Placid and Bolton Landing. Our stay wouldn’t have been as enjoyable without Ruby and Pearl, the caretakers’ lovely and friendly dogs. Our kids had so much fun. John and Sue, thank you for your hospitality!

The place was very clean and comfortable. The caretaker for the estate is in the apartment next door and was helpful and pleasant throughout our stay. They have two very friendly dogs that would swim in the river with our children. The river and surrounding area is very remote and peaceful.

Hermanus Estate
The Carriage House was beautiful, very clean, comfortable beds, great view of the Hudson River, and lots of other amenities. We brought both are dogs who enjoyed running around the area with Pearl and Ruby, Sue and John's dogs (caretakers of estate) who live downstairs from where we stayed. John was a wealth of information on where to dine, beaches and activities to do in the surrounding area. Sue is a top notched cleaner as apartment was immaculate!!I I did miss in the review when I booked our vacation that the Caretakers live downstairs and that the 2 other bathrooms are shared with them and one is located outside in the garage. There were only three of us so the beautiful bathroom in the Carriage House Apartment did accommodate us. Usually, when we go on vacation my Husband and I love are privacy and alone time with our son and dogs so this was a different experience for us to have to share our stay. I must say though that John and Sue were very respectful and courteous of our time and helpful if we needed or wanted anything. We really enjoyed ourselves on this vacation. We also got to meet the owners and my Husband enjoyed the conversation with Sue on the Ship Wheel in their home and the history behind it. Mitchell our son loved exploring the area and hanging out down near the river with all 4 dogs and making Campfires.

This place was just what we were looking for. The place was clean and had more than we needed. John checked in with us a few times to see if we anything. The property was amazing. There was even a welcome committee! We wish we could have had more time to explore and hang out at the river. Check in and check out was the easiest I have ever experienced. We hope to be able to stay here again when visiting family. It was a home away from home. Thank you John and Sue. We so appreciate everything!

Perfect Location
This was the perfect vacation spot for our 3 teenage grandchildren. They loved it. They thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of walking along the hiking paths or going to the river and just hanging out. When I asked them what their favorite part of our 2 week vacation was they all said Hermanus! And the grandparents agreed. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature.

The property was amazing! The inside exceeded expectations, from decorating to cleanliness. You can tell the host and caretakers take pride in the property. The caretakers were very friendly and attentive. It is close to Lake George for tourist attractions and entertainment. We bought our dog with us and he had a blast playing with the caretakers dogs. Beautiful setup right on the river. Would definitely recommend and go back

House by the Hudson River (Narrows)
The house is the perfect combination of woodsy and modern. Most of the wooden furniture has been beautifully hand made with creative design. The high celings in the main family room are also made of gorgeous wood. There is a real fireplace that we unfortunately did not use because it was too warm. Comfy leather recliners and a 75 inch TV. The kitchen is open to the main room with a peninsula to sit at with stools. Modern appliances, all the kitchen ware you could possibly need, clean and new. The bathroom was a WOW! Large, standing glass door shower with beautiful marble tile and all the amenities. Double sinks, well made wood cabinets. Nicely decorated, well stocked with fresh towels. For the highlight of the house, a short walk out the front door takes you to the banks of the Hudson River, which looks like a large babbling brook at that section of the Hudson! It is so serene and peaceful. There is lovely couple who live on the property with their 2 dogs Pearl and Rusty who welcomed us and were available for any questions. Had a fabulous 4 night stay here exploring the Lake George region. Highly recommend this getaway.

This place was great! Honestly I was slightly nervous because it was an apartment, but it definitely did not feel like it! The place was open and spacious while being cozy at the same time. The caretakers that like in the lower apartment were very welcoming and friendly. Their two dogs were so sweet and the kids really loved them. The property was gorgeous, such amazing views! We went at the end of October so the peak leaves were gone but that didn’t hinder how beautiful it truly was. We can’t wait to go back, already planning our next visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hermanus Estate! The carriage house is EXCETIONALLY well appointed with high quality furnishings, supplies, and decor. It is obvious that great thought and care went into creating a great experience for guests. The grounds of the estate are magnificent for taking long walks and just relaxing and enjoying the view of the Hudson River. The hosts are friendly, welcoming, and so helpful in sharing their extensive knowledge of the area. The property is perfectly located for visiting the Adirondacks area and close to restaurants and services but is also a cozy, comfortable, quiet retreat to return to after explorations.

The house had every ammenity you could possibly need. The views alone from the windows of the carriage house were incredible. Walking the property, whether in the wooded area or along the banks of the Hudson River provided beautiful scenery, perfect for a late summer/early fall mini vacation Thank you to Sue & Ken for their incredible hospitality and wonderful converstaion.
