Holidays in Chinatown

Leave your job, buy a ticket, fall in love, never return. You don't have to do all of those things, but one you should do is lock in that ticket to Chinatown. One of the many neighbourhoods of Jakarta, it's a fabulous base for discovering all that this city has to offer. The capital of Indonesia is home to around 8,500,000 people and one of the best cities to really get feel for the nation's history and culture. Chinatown is 6 kilometres north of the city's centre. If you're arriving in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, throw your bags in the back of a taxi and head 18 kilometres east.

This city is jam-packed with glorious things to do, and many of them can be found near Chinatown. It's a challenge to choose the best attractions, but the National Monument and Jakarta Cathedral are two you should not miss. After taking a look at those, you're going to want to head onwards to the Central Park and Pacific Place. A great way to immerse yourself in this city is to wander around a few of its neighbourhoods. So why not make your way to nearby Old Town and Mangga Besar and discover their sights and sounds?

Educate yourself on the cultural scene at the National Gallery of Indonesia and the Ismail Marzuki Park.

While you can see a lot of art online these days, there's nothing better than looking at the real thing. Take in the area's creative side at the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics and the Balai Seni Rupa.

Sometimes it's the star exhibits that excite us the most. Other times it's an under-appreciated treasure that's been stored away in a dusty corner. Keep a lookout for both at the Textile Museum, the Puppet Museum, the Museum Bank Indonesia and the National Archives Museum.

There's nothing quite like holidaying with lively kids to keep you feeling young. Join them on a visit to SeaWorld Indonesia and Seaworld.

Kids don't want to spend all day cooped up in the hotel. Give them a real treat and go to one or two of the area's fun-filled attractions. You can choose from Ancol Dreamland, Dunia Fantasi, Taman Impian Jaya Ancol and Ocean Ecopark Ancol.

A trip away is the ideal opportunity to splash out a bit and grab a few souvenirs. Remember to stroll through Plaza Indonesia, Mangga Dua, Mangga Dua Square and Pasar Baru!

The surrounding heritage places will provide you with an illuminating glimpse into the area's unique past. Presidential Palace, the Bundaran Hi, the Welcome Statue and Merdeka Palace have plenty of tales to tell.

Whether you want to learn a little bit more about the region's customs and traditions or just relax in the serene atmosphere, go to the Istiqlal Mosque, Immanuel Church, the Jin de Yuan and Church of Christ.

Whether you support a team or just want to feel the electrifying atmosphere, don't miss the opportunity to grab tickets to a game at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Don't be afraid to participate in any chants, songs or Mexican waves that break out during the match, especially if hometown heroes the Indonesia National Team or the Persija Jakarta are playing!

The Keraton at The Plaza, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Jakarta is one more popular choice for those who can't say no to life's luxuries.

Chinatown is where you'll find the National Monument. If you want to stay within an easy walk of this first-class attraction, the Hotel Borobudur Jakarta is just 0.9 kilometres away. Another popular choice is the Aryaduta Jakarta, which is 1 kilometre away.
