Holidays in Chobe National Park

As all travellers know — an adventurous life is a life well-lived. So grab your passport, pack your gear and say hello to Chobe National Park!

It lies 760 kilometres north of Gaborone, the capital of Botswana.

There is a range of pleasant natural attractions not too far from Chobe National Park. Why not head 19 kilometres to Chobe National Park - Sedudu Gate? Alternatively, experience the natural beauty of Kasika Conservancy, 16 kilometres away.

If you're thinking about venturing outwards, journey 25 kilometres northeast to Chobe. This is where you'll come across Impalila Conservancy and the Kazungula Crocodile Farm. We also recommend swinging by Kasane, 25 kilometres to the east, for the Mowana Golf Course and Impalila Pier.

You may feel the urge to set up base in Livingstone for a little bit. This place is 90 kilometres to the east and close to the Railway Museum, the Livingstone Museum and the Maramba Cultural Museum. Other nearby sights are Mosi-oa-Tunya Game Park and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

Bird watching and wildlife watching are enjoyable ways to slow things down if your fast-paced travel itinerary has left you a bit stressed out.

Why spend precious time planning your day's itinerary when the hard work has already been taken care of? Wildlife spotting tours and wildlife safaris take the hassle out of sightseeing.

To really experience a place is to immerse yourself in the local food and drink, so prepare to munch, crunch, sip and slurp your way across Botswana. The only thing you need to take with you is a strong appetite!

If you're browsing a menu, there's every chance you'll see dishes with mopane worms or lamb. They're just two ingredients which are typically used in the cuisine here.

While you're in Chobe National Park, you should eat like the locals do. That means digging into a meal of seswaa (meat stew) or pap (maize porridge), a couple of the region's classic recipes.

Lerotse (melon) is a dessert that tells the story of this place in just one mouthful. Order a serving and then come back for more!

For lovers of a good pint, get cosy at a nearby bar and request Castle. Enjoy a glass with a side of joke-cracking and socialising with the locals.

Every year on the 30th of September, Botswana Day occupies an important place in the hearts of the locals. It offers a great chance to learn about the country's history and kick up your heels while you're at it!

Located 470 kilometres to the northeast is Lusaka International Airport (LUN), the nearest terminal. Be sure you give yourself ample time to find it.
