History

Denham and its surrounding areas were the first places on mainland Australia to have been discovered by European explorers, although Europeans didn’t settle here until the 19th century. It was a major pearling camp for a period. The Shark Bay Discovery Centre is a great place to learn more about the history of Denham.

Heaps of natural gems make this a really picturesque place, and some favourite spots include the incredible rock formations at Hamelin Pool, Francois Peron National Park, and the delightful Shell Beach. There’s an abundance of wildlife to spot and you can have a go at fishing from the jetty. Visit Little Lagoon, take a boat trip to the nearby Dirk Hartog Island, see a different side to the area on an Indigenous tour … and more!
