Hotel was a construction site with no access prior
Arrive a little before 3.00pm , 2.15pm, no parking in front due to Construction activity. No access into building prior to 3.00pm -door locked and sign hanging on door saying "Gone to Pub" . Place was a building site and about 15miles from Ripon !!
Stayed one night in the luxury room. It was a lovely room and the the jetted bath was amazing! Plenty of tea, coffee and milk. Staff were lovely, friendly and polite. We'll be back again for sure.
Excellent location for visits out and a great walk
Great stay lovely welcome, comfy bed and excellent breakfast.Considering they had had a fire in the kitchen and were serving breakfast from a mobile kitchen it was piping jot when it arrived - well done to carry on the service

Very good
Difficult to find even with a sat nav system. Otherwise very good.. Food excellent.
We stayed for just one night in the Luxury Double with Jacuzzi Bathroom. The room was very big and comfortable. The Jacuzzi bath was a bit snug. The food was very good and the breakfast was excellent. Be warned that the "internet price" doesn't include breakfast. The views from the room were stunning, if you ignored the small caravan site. Some of the reviews I have seen have said that the caravan site, which is part of the hotel, was noisy. We were there mid week out of school holidays, so hardly noticed it.
One night stay on business. Easy to find even though it is a rural location - well signposted. Pleasant staff and friendly locals. As a lone female traveller I felt perfectly safe at this hotel. Would definitely stay again.
Room was really nice, location was about 2 miles from Masham so we got a Taxi back on the night, only £7. Nice location for walking and visiting the countryside. Did not eat in the pub but called in for a pint which was ok.
Nice stay, got a last minute deal for a great price. Clean room which seemed to be part of a new build, well finished with great amenities. Food in the Black Swan is very good and there are some great walks around the area - with details available on the hotels website
Me and my fiance came here for one night and had a lovely time. The room was great. Nice and cosy, clean and comfortable. People were very pleasant. Food in pub was great. Wish we could have stayed longer. Would recommend.
Following a nice warm welcome when we arrived, including a couple of pints of Black Sheep, we were shown to our room (room 5) and I have to say that we were very impressed with the size of the room, the size of the bed, the excellent decor and extremely nice en-suite. We put the footy on the large flat screen TV (FA Cup Man Utd v West Ham) and chilled for a couple hours with a bottle of Lanson. Then it was time for our evening meal in the intimate restaurant. Crayfish tails as a starter for me and pate for my wife. Followed by Zebra steak and chips for me (very nice) and steak n ale pie for the wife. All washed down with an excellent bottle of Australian Black Shiraz. To finish I had cheese and biscuits (massive portions) and an ice cream / chocolate tart for the wife. Time for bed after an Irish coffee and a single malt. After a great nights sleep, we finished our stay next morning with a very good Full English breakfast, served with cold orange juice and fresh coffee.
All in all, we had a fantastic stay at this hotel, we will definitely be back and I have already started telling friends and family how good it was.
The Black Swan is located in a beautiful Yorkshire village and due to the elevated position has an amazing view of the surrounding countryside. We stayed in room 1 which was very tastefully furnished, with a huge comfortable bed and a window with views over the surrounding countryside.
We ate in the restaurant on the evening (make sure you book in advance) - the food was superb and the service excellent. Overall an great experience, would highly recommend the Black Swan for a short break -we will definitely make a return visit.
Overall a good hotel. only downside booked a superior room and after reading all the reviews about the views from the rooms we were given room 11 which i didnt think was a superior room and it was also down stairs bekow the bottom floor with a veiw of the back of the building where the other rooms were situated. this meant that every time we were in our room we needed to have the light on. The food in the hotel waz good.
it was just like the description we had a wonderful time the room was spacious with lovely views, food was excellent and service good, would go back for a repeat visit
The great reviews are justified, large modern rooms with a georgeous breakfast. Some people have a problem with the walking to and from Masham. We took the route down the public footpaths along theback fields taking a detour path via the riverbank and golf course - beautiful. It took about an hour and was lovely arriving at Theakstons Brewery for the first pint at lunchtime. We returned to the Black Swan just before dark using the direct footpath route through fields before turning up a road to the bottom of Fearby then 15 mins up . This took about 1/2 hour or so. Another great walk to build up an appetite for the delicious Moules and Black Sheep Bitter. The road was safe enough using the Fearby village green, we met some friendly locals on the way. >>>It is walking country you know!!! there is a Masham taxi firm available-Ladybird (one car) book it well in advance. We were told £6 one way. Brilliant 2 night stay
If it bright lights and night life you're looking for don't come here.If you want quality accommodation, great food, fabulous views and fresh air then this is the place. The nearest town is Masham but it isn't within walking distance for a night out (and the road is unlit) and really there is no need to go anywhere as the food in the Black Swan is excellent. Its a good base for visiting places like Thirsk and Ripon and great value for money. We had a wonderful weekend and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
I don't usually bother writing reviews - I have been to so many hotels and generally they are all pretty similar in quality and service.
Well this place is different. The owner and staff really go out of their way to make sure you have a nice stay. The food is tremendous, probably the nicest breakfast I have ever had, and I've had a few in my time. You could tell how fresh the food was.
Also, the surroundings of the hotel are very nice and just a mile or so outside Masham centre. Will def go here again!!
