Holidays in Dubna

Cool! Your leave's been approved. Now all you need to do is wave goodbye to your boss and book a ticket to Dubna — pronto!

It sits 110 kilometres to the north of the nation's capital, Moscow.

This area has some interesting historical attractions, such as the Rocket Monument and Castle Museum. A visit to either is certain to send your imagination back to another time.

Once you've picked up your pass at Waypark Ski Slope, you won't want to waste a minute getting to the top of the slope! You might also like to take the chairlift and shred the runs at Leonid Tyagachev Mountain Ski Club.

How do you like the sound of the Kimry Theater of Drama and Comedy and the Kimry Local History Museum? These awesome attractions are in Kimry, just 20 kilometres northeast of Dubna. Or maybe the Taldom History and Literature Museum and Church of Michael the Archangel appeal more to you? To visit them, travel to Taldom, 25 kilometres to the east.

Spend a while wandering around the Tver State University, the Mikhail Krug Monument and the Tver Regional Drama Theatre. These attractions are all not far from the centre of Tver, 75 kilometres away. If you're keen for more, Tver City Park and the Museum ME Saltykov-Shchedrin should also feature on your itinerary.

Getting outdoors and seeing the surrounding landscape doesn't get much better when you can pick from engaging activities like ice skating and hiking.

Take in the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries, craft workshops and theaters. They are particularly good places to visit when the rain starts pelting down.

If you get some nice weather, why not take the opportunity to discover the surrounding area's open-air museums and gardens?

If you're in the mood to learn more about the area's background, drop by the local old towns, historic mansions, historic palaces and war relics and monuments. Find a map, do some research and explore the best of them.

If you're seeking an experience that goes beyond the physical world, consider a visit to one or two churches, cathedrals and monasteries. It's a delightful opportunity to learn a bit about Dubna's faith.

Eating is among life's greatest pleasures, and since you're reading this, we guess you think travel is too. Combine your love of both by venturing out and trying the food and drink offerings at a few of the bars, restaurants and cafés in town.

Want to know some of the most common ingredients used in cooking here? You should be prepared to taste rye and oats in a few of your meals.

If you love dessert, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to order lymonnyk (lemon pie), a yummy treat that's sure to satisfy your sugar cravings.

If you love a good beer, get comfortable at a nearby bar and ask for Baltika Premium Lager. It's best enjoyed with a side of storytelling and socialising with the locals.

Attempt to knock down the communication barrier by memorising a couple of words and expressions in the local tongue. You'll gain a more enriching experience and some new buddies while you're at it! 'Prasti!' translates to 'sorry'. Perhaps you'll find 'Xaroševo dnja!' a little bit easier to say? This means 'have a nice day'.

Want to immerse yourself in the Russia Day celebrations? Put the 12th of June in your travel diary and get ready to let your hair down with the locals!

It's always a shame to say "Uvidimsya pozzhe" to Dubna, but don't worry, it will still be there next time!

Ready to hit the skies? Pack up your bag, set an alarm and make a plan to get to Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO). It's some 85 kilometres to the south.
