Having stayed here numerous times over very long period..infact over 25 years ...i have seen this hotel dwindle away ...Always slept well but on this occasion it was like sleeping on the foor ..infact it was so uncomfortable by 4.30 it was actually causing pain ...By 6 i was delirious with no sleep at all ..got new room by 6.20 ..went to bed ..with the reason icame having ti be cancelled ...Tne manager who dealt with it done it quickly and wirh a smile..i hope the rest of the reception take note as they were not at all professional making me feel i was the problem !!..

Stayed after ferry trip for one night with family and dog. Easy to find. Car park was full but plenty of on street options directly outside. Great service and good location to explore. Breakfast was impressive for the price and appreciated the free child breakfast. Would stay agsin

Superbly situated Hotel for seafront and friendly staff who try and go the extra mile. Overall good value for money even in peak season.

Not a good bed for two people
We had booked a premium room but you could not swing a cat in the bathroom, could not enter and close the door, far too small for comfort. The worst part was the bed. Barely a double bed for two people. If you got to the edge you literally rolled out of bed as the mattress gave way. The air con was not working at all, but we had a fan. We had some complementary drinks in the fridge, nice touch, but they only give you one bottle of water for two people. I asked in reception if that was normal and they said YES! No offer to give us one more on a hottest day of the year. Dinner was included and the food was lovely but service was extremely slow and other customers left angry. The dinner service staff seemed very inexperienced, they were constantly gone from the restaurant but they didn't seem to be doing much to account fro their absence. Jacuzzi wasn't working, pool used by locals was crowded and people did not respect the no phones policy. Hotel greatly located to the hover craft service to Isle of Wight, reasonable parking fee of £5 but there is a lot they need to get right and beds are most important and we didn't get much sleep. Room and bed are fine for ONE person not two.

The stay at the hotel was good. Unfortunately, the restaurant for 2 meals and 3 drinks at over 70 pound was a bit expensive. And they added on Over 6 pound service charge which I disagree with unfortunately I didn't see it until I paid the bill and give him a tip , The jacuzzi wasn't working and apparently someone.Mentioned , it hadn't been working for over five months, So Why advertise it if it doesn't work ??

This hotel was very average. The air conditioning was poor and tbey were aware of this because we were left a broken fan in our room. The bathroom was very snug but clean. On arrival, we were greeted with a very indifferent response from the front desk about an issue with our stay and booking. No apology offered and no offers of trying to sort the issue or make our stay more pleasant. I had booked this room the previous month and had tried to move the date (they were full on the date i wanted), Expedia would not refund me. They rang the front desk who have the, 'final say', apparently but they refused too. It transpired that Expedia were asking the other Holiday Inn in Portsmouth by mistake so when i raised this issue to find that 'Peter' didnt exist at my hotel, the girl couldnt have cared a jot. It took 7.5 hours to drive to this hotel for one night or lose £140. I will not being booking through either the hotel or Expedia again. Very disappointing.

Nice stay
We had a nice stay in this hotel. Kids loved free minibar in the room :) Fair price of parking. We would definitely stay again in Holiday Inn Portsmouth.
