About this property
Townhouse St Jacques - Loft room with ensuite, central location, free parking
Top floor room incorporating original roof truss and purlins full of character, one double bed with the possibility of sleeping 3 people using the fold out chair in addition to the double bed. The room has an ensuite shower room and toilet.
The room overlooks the garden of the rectory, so although the house is right in the middle of town, the location is peaceful. The house itself lies at the bottom corner of the old cattle market which now provides abundant free parking. Architecturally the house is interesting as it is far wider at the front than the rear having an unmistakable rising eaves line when viewed from the side, and consequently easily recognised.
Jenny and I live on the premises so we can be flexible about arrival times. The town of Eymoutiers grew up around the river and so most buildings nestle on the hillside.
This means that like most of the historic buildings, our house is on several floors and the room is therefore not suitable for wheelchair access.
We are both happy and available to give advice about activities, destinations, transport and local information.
Jenny has a teaching room where she holds classes at different levels in English for French people and also in French for English speakers, and it is possible for you to join in. Some of her students live locally and come for regular weekly lessons. Others are planning to move to France and some are simply wanting to combine a holiday with learning/perfecting a language.
There are weekly markets on a Saturday and bigger bi-monthly markets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month.
The Rue des Maquisards is closed to traffic for these markets, but this does not pose a problem for guests wishing to arrive, depart or go out as the former cattle market is not affected.
There is very little of Eymoutiers which is more than 5 minutes walk from the house.
There is a small grocers, pharmacy, butchers, bakers and several antique / brocante shops at the bottom of the road, and a selection of bars and restaurants and a supermarket all within easy walking distance.
Eymoutiers is accessible by train and the station is 3 minutes walk from the house. You can for example leave Paris just before 4 in the afternoon and arrive in Eymoutiers soon after 8 in the evening. There are bus links to the nearby lake of Vassivière, which can be explored by bus and boat. Taxis and car rental easily available.
Ryanair and Flybe fly to Limoges or Brive airports, both about an hour's drive.
