About this property

King room in Bed and Breakfast - And A Hot Tub!

Want to experience Frankenmuth in the best way? How about a room in a bed and breakfast in the heart of town.

"Dawdy Haus" is Pennsylvania Dutch (Amish) for "Grandpa's House". When the kids have grown up and the house becomes too big, it becomes time to turn it over to a child that has their own growing family. The Amish often build a new house for the grandparents - with a guest room or two. This is known as the "dawdy haus".

This is our dawdy haus! we look forward to sharing it with you!

(PLEASE NOTE. You are booking 1 private room with a private bathroom. Not the entire home. This is a Bed and Breakfast which is actually a specific thing and means that there must be a host onsite who provides breakfast! You will be the only guests and you will have access to all the common areas of the home, including the hot tub!)

Read on!

Inspired by the Amish, we've decorated in a simple farmhouse style that will make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Our home is all about having a place for family and friends to visit and share time together. Whether it's early morning coffee on a glider rocker on the sun porch, grilling on the patio, or competing with the kids on the full size air hockey table in the basement, we hope you just feel at home.

Like most Amish dawdy hauses, it is a ranch style home so you don't have to deal with stairs, but with a full finished basement. So even if it is smaller than the home we just moved out of, there is plenty of room for sleeping, visiting, and playing. The outdoor patio is private and perfect for gathering most of the year! Even in the winter because of our newly installed hot tub! And the rest of the yard is completely fenced with an extra high chain-link fence which you and your pets will appreciate.

And in case you wondered, we have plenty of electricity. I said 'inspired' by the Amish.

When it comes to accessing the wonders of Frankenmuth, we can't say enough about how perfect the location is. Leave your car in the driveway and walk two blocks to where the traditional Frankenmuth attractions begin. If you know Frankenmuth, you know that everything is centered on Main Street and there is a slight incline from the river up to Genesee Street. We're at the top of the hill, so you get to start with the downhill walk. If you don't want to walk back, we’ll come and bring you back if you let us know ahead of time!

Regarding accessing our home. You'll get a code for the front door and for your private bedroom. The bathroom is shared by the two guest rooms, but we currently only allow one group at a time, so every group will have a private bathroom. If you need a second room, check our listing that offers both of our guest rooms instead. Type airbnb.com and add /h/frankenmuth-dawdy-haus

The common areas of the house are available for your use - including the Hot Tub. As a true bed and breakfast, by definition, we provide breakfast and we reside in the home. This is different than many Airbnb's that you may find elsewhere. See the "During Your Stay" section for more details.

As far as accessing other places? The Birch Run outlet mall is 8.6 miles from our home. Take the back way down Dehmel Rd to avoid the crowds on Main St. Bronner's Christmas Wonderland is also a little far to walk but how can you not go to a place that has billboards all the way down in Florida.

By definition as a true Frankenmuth bed and breakfast we are there in the morning to provide breakfast and we reside in the home.

We split time between Michigan and Florida, and like to camp, so you may meet a couple of our adult kids who help if we are gone.

Speaking of breakfast! We provide a different home-cooked meal each morning of your stay. Check out the pictures, they'll make you hungry! But please note: we don't provide a buffet of ALL the items in ALL the pictures at ONE time. We have to mention this because someone had this expectation and left us a bad review because we didn't!

Outside of breakfast, we will try to make ourselves scarce unless you are looking for our help in experiencing Frankenmuth.

We can get you started with a free wine tasting (ask for details), maybe a guided tour, or maybe all you need are a few recommendations!

We want you to have only the amount of interaction with us that YOU want to make your visit to Frankenmuth perfect!

Regardless, we are never more than a phone call or IM away throughout the day and evening .

We wanted to be within walking distance of the heartbeat of Frankenmuth. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood two blocks from Main Street, its the perfect location for us - and probably for you!

Frankenmuth is made for walking. And from our home you're a couple blocks from shops, restaurants and all the attractions

If you are looking for a place to hold a party because your guests might make a mess of your home, just keep scrolling. We're not interested.

We price based on how many are staying in the home. This is calculated during checkout by Airbnb, so it is important that you enter the right number of guests.

We have a Mini Golden Doodle puppy and we allow dogs. One dog per guest room only. And a maximum of 40 lbs. All pets must be crated if left alone in the house. And sorry, no cats period. My husband is deathly allergic.

Unfortunately, because of a guest that refused to take responsibility for the actions of their pet, and Airbnb not backing us up, we must require a damage waiver from pet owners. It is $10-15 per night in addition to the pet fee and is available on our private guest portal.

Speaking of our Guest Portal, as an API software-connected host, we are authorized by Airbnb to manage deposits and provide additional services offline. We call these "Extras".

"Extras" include both certain free amenities and items available for a fee. All can be easily arranged through our Guest Portal. We will send you a link after you book. You will be able to: 1) request optional free amenities like setting up a port-a-crib, etc. and 2) select and pay for things like: an early check-in, etc. If you have questions or can't find these on the guest portal, reach out and ask about any of these items of interest.

If you're like us and like to go south when Michigan is cold, check out our other home down on the Florida Gulf coast. You can find our other properties on our profile.
There's a private balcony or patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a Smart television is provided for your entertainment. The bathroom has a shower/tub combination and a hair dryer. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
Enjoy recreational amenities such as a water park and a spa tub. This bed & breakfast also features an arcade/game room and barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Busy Trip
We were there for a family wedding. The bed and breakfast place worked for us. We were so busy with family, we didn't spend too much time at the house. When we were there, we didn't see or hear our host. So we didn't feel we were being a bother to her. This is our first time at a bed and breakfast and it was a concern as to how this worked. Lilac was very welcoming and breakfast was nice. The house is located within 5 mins of all the cute shops. We enjoyed our stay.

great location for Frankenmuth
We stopped here for one night on our way up to Mackinac Island. The location is great and close to all of the attractions in Frankenmuth. The neighborhood is nice and we took a beautiful evening walk that ended by the river. The owners were very friendly and breakfast was good. We knew we were taking a risk staying at a bed and breakfast where we would be sharing a house with others. We did have a private bedroom and bathroom, but felt we had to stay in those tiny quarters. Our only complaint was the temperature in the bedroom. It was uncomfortably warm in our room and there was no thermostat to control the temp. I cannot sleep with ceiling fan on at night because it triggers my allergies. We opened the windows, but it was a very warm night and neither of us slept well. We realize the true Bed and Breakfast experience is not for everyone. The explanation on VRBO is accurate, so we are in no way criticizing the owners. It was a good location for a halfway stop on our way to Mackinac Island.

Early anniversary trip
Although our stay was brief, we enjoyed our time at this house & our hosts. They accommodated our requests and made us & our dog feel welcome. We also appreciated the extra effort when we realized we left some items. Thanks again for being such good hosts!

comfortable stay for a quick overnight
Had 2 meetings in Frankenmuth, one Wednesday evening and one Thursday afternoon. It is mid winter break here and the hotels were full of families. Found this listing and it worked out great. Easy to find. Within walking distance of town, exceptionally clean with well appointed linens and towels. Our hosts Mike and Christa were welcoming and friendly and felt like old friends. Breakfast exceeded our expectations. An outdoor hot tub was an added plus. Room is small, but king size bed was very comfortable with well made linens. Felt like staying with family..

Attentive host, great hot tub
Michael was an amazing host, ready and willing to provide for anything we may need. He cooked us breakfast all 3 days we were there and it was extremely delicious each time. Michael gave us recommendations on what to do in the area. He was very attentive. The hot tub was amazing as well, perfect temperature and even has a privacy screen to keep private from the neighbors. All said and done, Michael was a great host and we would definitely stay here again.

Close to Frankenmuth attractions
Overall it was a good place to stay. Our on-site host did her job but it was not a typical bed and breakfast experience. Showed us around, made us a ok breakfast but have stayed in other ones that made the experience of a bed and breakfast fun and personal. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable. I would recommend it if you need a convenient place to stay as you enjoy Frankenmuth.

Just okay
Not really a bed and breakfast experience. Kinda felt like I was intruding in someone's house. Very little communication with host. Plus the size of house wasn't very conducive to a B&B. Paper towels were missing. Many times there was no response from host to answer questions. For the price would have been better at a hotel.
