Take it from us, Gemlik is the kind of place that's worth calling in your annual leave for. It's located in Turkey, a well-loved region filled with amazing rural landscapes, beaches and coastal plains. Need we say more?

The well-known city of Istanbul is within reach of Gemlik. You'll find this major centre 65 kilometres to the north.

Is there anything better than listening to the sounds of the local bird life next to the water? Take the family to Suadiye Beach or Kilyos Beach for a sublime day out.

You won't need to be stuck inside a car all day to see some nature. Just 35 kilometres out of Gemlik, Uludag National Park is a lovely place to enjoy some fresh air. More tranquil surrounds are waiting for you at Saitabat Waterfall, 35 kilometres away.

Take a step back through time as you wander around City Square. This historical site has plenty of tales to tell.

Enjoy the thrill of observing a live soccer game at Bursa Ataturk Stadium, home to the Bursaspor. After you've roared along with their frenzied fans, why not enjoy a drink with a few of them somewhere close by? To reach the arena, head 30 kilometres south to Bursa.

Once you've picked up a pass and trail map at Kartepe Ski Center, you won't want to waste any time getting to the summit! You might also like to take the chairlift and check out the runs at Uludag Ski Center.

Want even more attractions? Head to Yalova, 19 kilometres north of Gemlik, for Luna Park and Yuruyen Kosk. Alternatively, Cinarcik is 20 kilometres to the northwest, and it's here you'll discover Yalova Kent Orman Cifte Selale and Dipsiz Gol.

Feel like visiting Dock Square, Yorukali Beach and Ayia Yorgi Church and Monastery? Find your way to Adalar, 50 kilometres to the north, and set up camp. These attractions, as well as the Adalar Museum and the Prinkipo Greek Orphanage, are all close.

When it's time to depart, spend the last of your holiday allowance and say "Sonra görüşürüz" to Gemlik.

Situated 55 kilometres to the north is Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW), the closest terminal. Be sure you give yourself plenty of time to find it.
