Hotel Alexander is a gem of a property, beautifully restored and well-maintained. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Generous American style breakfast. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Lucca.

Getting to the hotel is tricky with luggage. The streets are very narrow and leaving your car overnight in a parking lot several blocks away is a little scary. The entire area of Lucca is very old, so it is no surprise that the hotel is older. However the rooms were air conditioned which we were very thankful for. The staff was amazing and the cook to order breakfast was a pleasant surprise.

Gem in Lucca
Beautiful hotel in a great location inside the walls of Lucca. We unloaded our car in front of the hotel with the gracious help of the staff, parking was close by and comfortable to get to. The rooms were clean, comfortable and we had a wonderful stay. Breakfast was delicious, scrambled eggs & bacon, kids had yummy pancakes and the service was amazing. We will return!

Great hotel and staff in a wonderful location!
Fantastic staff. Lovely breakfast available at good hours. The air-con unit in our room was quite loud but incredible! Great shower. Really comfortable bed and pillows. Located just inside the walls of Lucca, but away from the busy areas so really quiet. Short walk away is a drinking fountain where we topped up our water bottles each day. Worth noting that you can hear everything those in the rooms around (next to/above) are doing (showering, hairdryer, going to the toilet....) so if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs! After we checked in during the early evening, we rested for a while before going out for dinner. When we returned the front door was locked and the lights at reception were off. A member of staff then came over and let us in. Turns out we were meant to leave our key at reception when going out but we had no idea! So they thought everyone was in bed as no missing keys... Never had to do this before (but then again can't remember the last time I had an actual room key and not card) and we weren't told when we checked in or when we went out (although the person on reception when we went out was busy so perhaps they would have mentioned it if they saw us leave). No curfew, they just lock the front door and turn off the lights if everyone is in bed but there is a night porter around if you need help/want to go out. So make sure you leave your key at reception!

Perhaps one of the best decisions my wife and I made on our trip was staying at Palazzo Alexander. A family owned and operated hotel whose staff was friendly, accommodating, helpful, and kind. We wish we had booked a longer stay, and it is located in a very charming part of the old town of Lucca, very walkable to many restaurants, shopping, and attractions. Will for sure stay here again.
