Built during the heyday of the Grand Trunk Railway, our 1858 house, Grand Trunk Cottage is an established part of the Androscoggin Valley, featuring modern updates for a comfortable stay.
Air conditioning was installed in September 2024.
Two king-size bedrooms and a full bathroom comfortably accommodate 4 adults. A smaller (downstairs) bedroom with a twin bed is suitable for an additional adult or a child.
There is a living room with separate dining room, and the large fully-equipped kitchen is ideal if you prefer to eat-in. Free WiFi is available throughout the main living areas.
Equipment can be safely stored in the laundry room, accessible by the back door.
Outside seating should be stored in the laundry room when not in use.
Please note: This is an OLD house and as such has its creaks and quirks. The floors are not all level, the walls are crooked in places and there will be random noises but nothing to worry about.
Some guests consider that the stairs are fairly steep but the handrails help with this.
Be aware that if you stay during the week, you may be disturbed by the freight trains (SLR 393 / 394) that pass through Gorham around midnight and blast their horn.
It's a short walk to Subway, Big Day Brewing and local cafés, as well as Gorham Common and Grand Trunk station (railway museum). Walmart is an 8-minute drive and Dollar General is a 10-minute walk away.

Surrounded by mountains and nestled between the White Mountains Highway (NH Route 16) and Route 2 in Gorham, we are conveniently situated for travel to nearby North Conway (NH) and Bethel, Maine.
Close to Mount Washington (Auto Road - 10 mins to the base area), Great Glen Trails (10 mins), Wildcat ski area (<15 mins) and numerous hiking trails. Sunday River and Attitash are both 30 minutes away, Cranmore Mountain and Bretton Woods are 40 minutes away.
For family days out, Santa’s Village and Story Land / Living Shores Aquarium are all under half an hour away.
For our joint protection, there is a motion-triggered security camera on the front door and above the back door, pointing away from the house itself.
