Lovely Place!
Our family of 6 stayed here for a week. We used the house as both a place to relax and as a jumping off point to do other activities in Nova Scotia. We loved it here. We enjoyed numerous outings on Ponhook Lake in the canoes, kayaks and stand up paddleboard provided by the owner. The house is beautiful, clean and very well kept up. The location is stunning, with the beautiful Ponhook lake in a wilderness setting with endless opportunities for exploration. A perfect place to stay if you want to enjoy the wild beauty of the Nova Scotia country as well make day trips to other places such as Halifax, Lunenburg, or Kejimkujik. Scott, the owner, sent us a very thorough document with all the information we needed to get into the house and enjoy ourselves. He also included information about the area, which was very helpful to planning our trip. Lovely house, wonderful hosts-we can’t recommend this house enough!

Family Adventures in Paradise
Our family of 9 (including an infant who arrived after the reservation was made!) had a most wonderful week at Ponhook Lake. Scott is a wonderful host who patiently answered all our questions and provided lots of valuable information about the area along with great suggestions for places to explore. But then we chose to spend a lot of our time at the house...our 6 year old granddaughter learned to paddle board and our 9 year old grandson learned to kayak and spent many hours hunting for tadpoles and frogs. Our youngest appreciated the hammock and running on the spacious deck. The adults thoroughly enjoyed leisure time listening to loons and trying every means of floating on the water...canoes, kayaks and paddle board. This beautiful, well equipped home supported all our needs and more! Thank you for sharing your little bit of paradise with us, Scott!

Ponhook Lake escape
The cottage is incredibly comfortable and welcoming. The rooms are large and well appointed - we were just 2 people but could have easily slept 6+ more comfortably. The kitchen is well equipped with the basics and many spices. We spent most of our time on the massive deck enjoying the view of the lake. Swimming is doable but a bit of work. Water shoes and a floatie highly recommended- there are some unexpected rocks just below the surface until you get ~12’ off shore. The cottage is remote - the local store (Stews) is wonderful and has many things (including great pizza on weekends) but anything else is a 40 minute drive. What a great place to come home to after a day of adventuring around the South shore though!

Great cottage experience on Ponhook lake
Our 2 families enjoyed a relaxing vacation in this spacious, well-equipped cottage. We were impressed with how comfortable and well stocked this home was. This home had everything we needed and more. The large deck was perfect for a morning coffee or for large family dinners. Swimming, as well as kayaking and canoeing on the lake were thoroughly enjoyed by all. It was so peaceful that it seemed the only noise we heard was from the nearby family of ducks and loons. Although the cottage is isolated, Kejimkujik National Park and Rissers Beach were both about 45-60 minutes away and well worth the drive. The hosts were quick to respond to any questions we had. Overall, we would recommend this cottage for a fantastic family retreat.

Our experience of Hurricane Dorian
In the run up to hurricane Dorian Scott was very proactive and suggested we might like to go to the cottage a day early to avoid travelling during the storm. We were very pleased to accept his offer. We also filled the bath with water prior to the storm as he suggested, which was to work well for us. On the morning of the storm power to the cottage was lost and remained out for the rest of our stay. Unfortunately this also meant no running water and access to the bedrooms in the basement was pretty much out of the question as they were very dark. We were able to repair a generator we found in the garage and managed to keep the refrigerator going for the 6 days of our stay. We were disappointed that the generator could not be plugged into the main electricity consumer unit for the property as this would have solved most of our problems and we would strongly recommend this be provisioned going forward. Whilst we enjoyed the location, bathing in the lake and heating water on the wood burning stove ceased to be a novelty after 6 days and we retreated to a hotel in Halifax where we could enjoy more modern conveniences.

Lake Ponhook retreat
The house is spacious and well-equipped, and the location can't be beat. We loved paddling on the lake in the mornings, swimming in the late afternoons, family dinners on the large deck, and then watching a movie together in the upstairs den. The house is also centrally located to access both the south and north shore in 90 minutes or less, and Kejimkujik Provencial Park is only 40 minutes north. Biking and canoeing in Keji Park were the highlights of our trip.

Luxurious, isolated lakeside serenity.
This property is isolated. A little further down a gravel road than we really liked, BUT! But 'isolated' also means supremely quiet and peaceful. There are only a couple nearby cottages. We heard minimal noise (conversation) from one, only a couple times, and nothing from the neighbours on the other side. Your view across the lake is of rocks, water, trees. No other dwellings. You might think there are compromises to creature comforts to access this kind of quiet, but not so. This house is very well stocked, well-furnished, and big. You can choose to relax in many different ways; in the large cushy living room, the massive room on the top floor, at the table in the big, bright dining room, at the shore, or on one of the four paddle-powered water craft. We took a canoe and kayak along the shore one morning almost all the way to the little village of Greenfield. Superb paddle. No other boats. Only a few people having their coffee dock-side, and a loon pair calling. Super peaceful. We used the provided cooler and beach blanket to head down to Summerville Beach. Awesome. Literally a mile of soft white sand beach and—at its busiest—probably only about 100 other people enjoying it. That was about a 45-50 minute drive. It's a little less than that to get to Bridgewater, where you can find every little thing you're going to need. Actually, the store in Greenfield might be sufficient. We topped a few things up there, and it's only a 12-15 minute drive. We had good friendly communication with the hosts and thoroughly enjoyed the very large, clean, well stocked house throughout our visit. Everything worked well. At first it felt conspicuous not to have a TV or radio on the main floor but we ended up relishing the quiet without them. If you can't live without background noise bring a little bluetooth speaker. But a better idea is to embrace the pure quiet, listen for the loon, be amazed by the jumping fish in the morning and the fantastical display of stars at night.
