Holidays in Hataki

Been diagnosed with a bad case of the travel bug? Don't worry — we've got the perfect cure. Book a ticket to Hataki and you'll feel better in no time!

You'll discover one of Japan's most significant cities just a few hours from Hataki. Okayama is situated 180 kilometres to the northeast.

Nothing else compares to relaxing at the seaside. During your stay, organise an outing to Katsurahama Beach, 95 kilometres to the east.

There is a range of natural sights around Hataki. Why not make your way 45 kilometres to Lake Ishitegawa Dam? Alternatively, you can admire the different sights and sounds of Namekawa Keikoku, 50 kilometres away.

Whether you want to spend your time on the black diamond runs or try out a lesson on the beginners' slopes, you'll enjoy playing in the fresh powder at Ishizuchi Ski Area.

Expand your horizons and see what's happening in Ozu, 7 kilometres to the southeast. Many travellers come here for Ozu Castle and the Museum of Commerce & Domestic Life. Alternatively, Uchiko is 20 kilometres to the east of Hataki. Visit this locality for easy access to the Kamihaga Residence and Wax Museum and the Machiya Museum.

Dogo Park, Isaniwa Shrine and the Ishite Temple are all very close to Matsuyama, 45 kilometres to the northeast. Want a few more reasons to swing by? Yuzuki Castle Ruins and the Yuzuki-jo Museum aren't far away either.

There is no better way to get to know a place than to literally take a bite out of it! You're invited to discover Ehime by dining on some of its most tantalizing food and drink.

Are you a fan of beef? What about noodles? Whether you're crazy about them or not, they are two popular ingredients often found in dishes here.

While Hataki is home to no short supply of culinary pleasures, you shouldn't leave without tasting tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) and sawachi ryori (sushi and raw fish). Considered regional specialties, you'll have to add them to your must-try list if you really want to taste this destination.

'Stressed' spelled backwards is 'desserts', and that's not just a coincidence. There's no more delicious way to let your troubles melt away than with anpan (sweet roll), a treat that's often found on dining tables here.

If you love a good beer, get comfortable at a nearby bar and ask for Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen. It's best enjoyed with a side of joke-cracking and mingling with the regulars.

Junmaishu is the spirit of choice for many locals. Order up a shot or two to get the night started!

Don't let a difference in language put you off! Make your visit to Ehime a more rewarding one by memorising a few expressions in the local language. To start with, try to get your mouth around 'Kanpai'. This translates as 'cheers/good health!'. Another one to commit to memory is 'Yoi ichinichi o', which means 'have a nice day'.

Pencil the 23rd of December in your diary. In Hataki this means one thing — Birthday of Emperor Akihito. An important day of celebrations, this is a marvellous time of year to check out the country.

Before you pack up your belongings and say "後でお会いしましょう (Atode o ai shimashou)", why not spend the last bits of your holiday allowance and buy yourself some souvenirs of Hataki?

Fukuoka Airport (FUK) is the nearest terminal, 190 kilometres to the west. Ensure you have enough time to reach it.
