Holidays in Hebnes

If the Chrissie money you got from Gran is burning a hole in your pocket, why not spend it on a ticket to Hebnes? We promise — it'll be a gift that keeps on giving!

Norway's capital city, Oslo, is located roughly 280 kilometres to the east of Hebnes.

Put aside some time for playing games on the shore and hunting for shells at Vaulen Beach or Ferkingstad Beach.

Venture out of Hebnes and you'll be rewarded with some unique natural attractions. Just 45 kilometres away, Preikestolen is a fabulous spot to kick back and relax. Also consider checking out Fossadn Waterfall, 30 kilometres away from Hebnes.

Whether you're trying to improve your turns or simply return to base in one piece, Northern Rogaland has the slopes you're after. Enjoy some wintry fun at either Roldal Skicenter or Hovden Alpinsenter.

After some additional close-by destinations? Sjernaoy is only 13 kilometres to the southwest, so get in the car and start exploring! Alternatively, Vikedal, 15 kilometres north of Hebnes, is also worth a day trip.

Whether it's for shopping or to explore the sights, travellers often make their way over to Haugesund, 40 kilometres to the west. The Haraldshaugen, Haugesund Town Hall and Utsira are all nearby. That being said, you shouldn't pass up Vangen and Djupadalen either.

There is no better way to get to know a destination than to literally take a big bite out of it! You're invited to discover the culture, history and personality of Northern Rogaland by indulging in some of its top food and drink.

Once you grab a seat and leaf through a menu at a restaurant, you'll see that moose and reindeer are a few ingredients commonly used in local cooking.

There's always a local recipe or two you absolutely have to try, and during your stay in Hebnes, svinekoteletter (pork chops) is among them. Lapskaus (stew with minced meat) is another culinary classic that you should keep an eye out for.

'Stressed' spelled backwards is 'desserts', and that's not just a coincidence. There's no better way to let your hassles melt away than with krumkake (thin rolled cake filled with cream), a treat that's often found on dinner tables here.

For something with more bite, enjoy one or two shots of karsk (coffee and vodka). Drink it down straight or ask your barkeep for any mixer recommendations.

Knowing even just a few expressions in the local language will make your visit to the Northern Rogaland region that little bit smoother. First off the bat, have a go at saying 'Lykke til!'. This translates as 'good luck'. Another one to remember is 'Skål!', which means 'cheers/good health!'.

Celebrated throughout the whole country, Constitution Day occurs on the 17th of May. If you're lucky enough to be here at this time, it'll be hard not to get swept up in all the excitement!

Before you pack up and say "Se deg senere", why not spend the last of your holiday allowance and buy yourself some mementos of Hebnes?

If you'll be travelling by air, you'll probably be using Sola Airport (SVG). It's 55 kilometres to the south. Pack your bag, plan a convenient route and set an alarm!
