Holidays in Hegura

When chucking a sickie becomes your new norm, it's time to ditch the nine-to-five and say hello to Hegura!

The nation's capital city, Tokyo, can be found 350 kilometres to the southeast of Hegura.

Perhaps you'll come across some enchanting seashells as you enjoy a walk down the shoreline at Okunoto Coast.

You must visit Hegura Island to see if anything catches your eye.

After some other nearby destinations? Suzu is only 50 kilometres to the southeast, so hop in the car and start exploring! Alternatively, Wajima, 55 kilometres south of Hegura, is also worth the journey.

Whether it's for shopping or to see the sights, visitors often make their way to Nanao, 85 kilometres to the south. The Ishikawa Nanao Art Museum, the Noto Orchid Land and Komaruyama Park are all within a stone's throw. That said, don't miss Notojima Bridge and Wakura Onsen Seaside Park either.

Whether you prefer the sophistication of Michelin stars or wolfing down a simple street snack, tasting the local food and drink is one of the greatest things about travel. So why not give your taste buds a treat by digging into some of the region's decadent offerings?

Beef and noodles are two of the main ingredients in many of the dishes here. If you don't have an appetite for them already, you might by the end of your visit!

If you're not one to say no to dessert, we don't think you'll be disappointed. Be sure to order anpan (sweet roll), an enticing treat that's sure to hit your sweet spot.

Life's not all beer and skittles, but there's certainly nothing wrong with relaxing with a cold one once in a while. While you're here, ensure it's Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen.

Mixed, straight, in a cocktail — doesn't matter! A couple of rounds of junmaishu ought to kick start your night out! It's a local favourite here, and it's definitely worth tasting.

Make good use of your transit time by practising a handful of expressions in Japanese. Try to say 'Yoi ichinichi o'. It means 'have a nice day'. 'Isshoni odorimasenka?', which means 'would you like to dance?', is another one you might need.

If you're heading to Hegura on the 23rd of December, get ready to party! Birthday of Emperor Akihito sees crowds of people getting out and about and celebrating.

It's always a shame to say "Sayōnara" to Hegura, but you can always come back!

Ready to hit the skies? Pack up your bags, set your alarm clock and make a plan to get to Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO). It's about 330 kilometres to the south.
