Lake Superior Beach Haven with Large LakeHouse

To experience Lake Superior in it's most gentle and peaceful way, join us on Bark Bay! We have a beach that is sheltered from the open waters, while still being accessible to the Grandness of Lake Superior! Our home is on it's shores and has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, an open floor plan with a vaulted ceiling for the kitchen, dining and living rooms. And we have one ground floor bedroom with attached bathroom for those needing that, with another 4 bedrooms up a flight of stairs. This home has radiant floor heat in the newer part of the house and wall heaters in the original part of the house, with a GIANT fireplace too! The beach is a short walk down a path, past our beloved boathouse(where we stay when we are up there with you sometimes) and down 12 steps to the beach! There is firepit to sit around under the stars, where you can watch the Northern Lights! And you can kayak or stand up paddle to the Bark River Slough at the base of our Bay. Otherwise, a quick drive to Cornucopia or Bayfield, or a lovely bikeride around the Bark Point Peninsula is in order! If you sail or have any boat to launch, you can do that up the way about 1/2 mile and sail down to our waterfront to store your boat.
What we love most about our place is the absolute darkness and secluded privacy of it all while having a short trip to Bayfield if we want to be social!

Dogs are welcome. There’s a fee. I’d like to charge $90/dog/visit. But I have no way to do that on this site so talk to me about it since it’s listed as per day!
Also we listed this house as a 2 bedroom unit in the winter so far. That listing has lots of details!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYH3z0d5J9E

Beautiful Home on Lake Superior
We enjoyed our stay at this VRBO. The description of the home and property was accurate. The grounds and home are well cared for. The property and home were clean. It was a quiet setting. Some games were provided if desired. T.V. was available. The beach area was fun to walk along and explore. We enjoyed a campfire in the campfire ring and wood was provided. The hostess was always responsive to our questions in a very helpful and timely manner.

Great family retreat
It was wonderful to feel like we were the only ones on Lake Superior, with a large house to accommodate our big family, a lawn with fire pit, ample parking for our 3 vehicles, and of course the lake shore beach full of beautiful rocks and sand. We took the Apostle Islands tour in Bayfield with the whole family and kayaked the sea caves from the outfitters in Cornucopia, which was very convenient. The kayaking was fabulous for the 5 adults. We also spent time at a beach south of Bayfield and went to the Howl brewery that was also fun for all of us, with an outdoor gear store and gelato in addition to the beer. A Taco truck was there if we needed food. We also hiked to a waterfall near Cornucopia and some hiked the trail at Meyer's Beach to see the sea caves from above. All in all a great way to spend a week with family.

Retired Teachers Trip
My group of eight retired lady friends and I really enjoyed our stay at the Lake Superior Beach Haven. It is located right on the south shore of Lake Superior. We hiked at Lost Creek, went shopping in Cornucopia and Bayfield, and took in a performance of "Ladies of Laurel Canyon" at the Big Top Chautauqua. We had lots of fun staying at this nice VRBO on beautiful Lake Superior.

Summer Vacation
House set on a beautiful piece of property. Nice yard that we were able to play games in. Had a bonfire every night. There was firewood there so we did not have to purchase any. The walk down to the beach was a little cumbersome, but not too bad. Water was very cold so we did not swim, but did catch some fish! We had a large group so two bathrooms was tricky. Plenty of room for all of us though. We definitely didn’t feel cramped. Owner was accommodating with us having dogs. Lots of games at the house for the kids to play. We appreciated all the room for parking as well. Make sure you pick up groceries before you get there. We grabbed some before we got there and didn’t have any problems. The owner was a great communicator. We’d would stay at this property again.

This house was wonderful! We had 8 people including a baby with us and the house was large enough to accommodate us all. Location was perfect! We woke up to a beautiful sunrise on the lake every morning and enjoyed the fire pit at night. The lake was warm enough to swim in. House was well appointed and had everything we needed. We are planning on returning next year!

It was an Amazing place to spend family time in one place on the Beautiful Private Beach/Lakefront house on Lake Superior!! Plenty of fun things to do whether the weather was rain or shine! Our host Eileen was very accommodating and provided every necessity you may need and perhaps forgot to pack. My daughter loved the pack n play for her little one!

A great stay in Herbster
My family of 7 adults thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this Herbster house. It's very spacious, with 3 indoor areas to hang out, plus the deck and the beautiful yard around the firepit. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. The living room has a gorgeous view of the lake. We didn't go in the water from the house's beach, but we kayaked the Bois Brule River into Lake Superior, and we also did a guided kayak tour to the Meyers Beach sea caves - incredible! Also recommend Big Bay State Park on Madeline Island and dinner at the Copper Trout in Bayfield. Owner Eileen was great with communication and making sure our stay was comfortable. We couldn't find a couple items in the house, and she responded right away to help us out. A great place to stay!

Family Getaway
This is a marvelous location if your family loves the outdoors - canoeing, hiking, kayaking - you are in the center of the action. The kitchen is large and has everything you need. Bedrooms are comfortable - and who needs more than 2 bathrooms when on vacation. Plus the lovely village of Bayfield is a half hour away. Shops, restaurants, boat trips, groceries (fresh fish) - Bayfield has it all. We have usually headed to Door County, but this is a nice alternative.

3 Siblings and their families enjoyed a week in this spacious and eclectic lakehouse. The rental description indicates there are 4 bedrooms on the second floor, this is a little misleading since one of those bedrooms is in a lofted area above the kitchen/dining/family great room- the space lacked privacy and sound barrier from the lower level so it was not an ideal place for our group to use as a bedroom-- we ended up using it a "napping" spot instead! The 3 bedrooms we used in the old/original part of the home fully met our needs and had plenty of retro-charm. The kitchen was well stocked, the butlers pantry convenient for extra storage and it was great to have a washer/dryer onsite. The seating in the living room was comfortable (couch and armchair) but there was not enough for all of us to sit at the same time (5 adults, 2 kids)- there was additional seating in the lofted area above and in the fireplace room on second floor if the group split up. The fireplace is huge and beautiful but due to lack of attention from prior groups/renters, we were allowed to burn only a duraflame log (TOTALLY understandable due to fire risk, but disappointing nonetheless). We enjoyed meals and games every evening at the well sized dining room table. There are wooden steps down to the waterfront (but more than 12 listed in the rental description) and we enjoyed wading and collecting rocks (Look for our "rainbow of Lake Superior")- bring your water shoes! The fire ring outside is great and we enjoyed a couple outdoor fires through the week. We spent the week reading, playing games, wading, hiking local trails, biking, visiting a local cidery and distillery, and shopping/exploring in Bayfield & Cornucopia (Ehlers General Store and the Fat Radish highly recommended!) Overall this property offers beautiful views of the lake from the yard and from the second floor deck and is very peaceful and quiet.

Unfortunate
This is the first time I’ve given a less than 5star review. On arrival, the house (indoors) was swarming with mosquitoes. On the first night, I lost count after killing 30mosquitoes. Other family members killed multiple as well. The owner locks up the thermostat behind plexiglass. You are stuck with whatever temperature they decide you should have. Temperatures within the house topped off in the 80s. A very uncomfortable, unpleasant stay.
