Liked hotel, lovely old fashioned atmosphere and spacious rooms. Had to change room due to unacceptable lumpy mattress. New room mattress was better but still needed to be upgraded or replaced. This one issue spoiled what was otherwise an excellent hotel.

No hot water or heating so cannot rate higher
The overall hotel is fine, but I cannot rate it higher due to the fundamental issues. There was no hot water (on all three days I stayed) and the heating did not work. I was there for a wedding and heard the same from 5 other rooms - so it's not a one off issue- and when I told reception they just said it's an old building and not much can be done. I am quite flexible with hotel issues but a shower for me is mandatory.

Wonderful staff and lobby level. Bed was very comfortable, but bathroom was not great. I don’t think carpet belongs in bathrooms and it smelled wet and not great. Was totally fine for one night and the bar and coffee areas were wonderful.

The room was spacious and reasonably clean. The bathroom was tired and could do with a refit. The window was small for the size of the room and the view of the hotel air conditioning unit to the rear courtyard of the property was uninspiring compared to the cost of the room.

The hotel was clean enough but not immaculate, and generally slightly on the shabby side. Staff were pleasant and happy to help when we asked, but not proactively making sure everything was going to be fine before we had checked. If somebody booked me to stay again I wouldn't complain, but if choosing myself I'd probably look around for an alternative before booking again.

Clearly there has been investment into the front exterior, foyer, bar and lounges. Unfortunately the room was tired looking. Paint peeling off the bath, ceiling needs painting, noisy floor boards and doors that don’t close quietly, with resulted in a poor nights sleep. There aren’t a great deal of hotels in Hereford, so this one has no excuse for being so much better. No warm welcome/smile from reception, pretty much just handed a peace of paper with all the necessary details on, lazy approach.

Duvet covers were feather down which were too. hot for summer making sleep uncomfortable also pillows were feather down also, unsuitable for summer .Room too hot also
