Tucked away in a quiet corner of Herefordshire are Monnington House and Garden Cottage providing a very peaceful, beautiful and private escape. The properties’ nine large tastefully decorated and welcoming bedrooms with nine bathrooms are spread out over two independent but adjoining properties. There is a ground floor bedroom in Garden Cottage specifically created for less mobile guests.
There is a fabulous working kitchen in Monnington House which is geared up for numbers and catering. The dining area in the main house seats 18 comfortably. Likewise the alfresco dining area seats 18 too and is carefully lit for the evening and has scented plants in large pots. On the terrace weber style bbq and parasols are provided from early May to the end of September. Catering is available by prior arrangement. There is also a large south facing terrace with outdoor soft seating for you to enjoy whilst having a drink; reading a book or playing board games.

These properties enjoy private and peaceful gardens and grounds of more than 2 acres and a huge playing field with 2 football goals plus a games room and rustic table tennis room in the outbuildings.
Both properties are supplied with high quality Hypnos super king zip and link beds and luxurious 400 thread count Egyptian linen. These simple luxuries allow you to rest and restore. The properties are full of books, plants, textiles and objects handpicked by the owner over the last 14 years.
The hamlet of Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquillity and beauty and yet is connected to many local activities, pubs and cafes and places to visit all within 20 minutes’ drive. There is a superb farm shop of the top of the lane which will enhance your stay. A short walk through the cider apple orchards is the River Wye.
There is wonderful walking straight from the door to suit all abilities and ages. Monnington on Wye is located on the Bredwardine to Byford section of the Wye Valley Walk and on the E1 part of the Wye Walker. Across the river at Moccas guests can enjoy the Moccas Hill Wood Nature Reserve where there is a huge choice of walks and trees to admire. Arthurs Stone is about a 2 hour walk from the house and suitable for able walkers who enjoy walking up and down hills.
During the summer months the River Wye comes into its own. Guests who love fishing and can obtain passes from Bulmers Angling Club or the Fishing Passport. Large groups enjoy a full or half day canoeing on the Wye and can include a suitable stop at a pub for lunch. Wild swimming in the Wye can be arranged. There are 5 golf courses within reach including Kington which is the highest golf course in England and has fabulous views. Hereford Raceway is at Weobley and offers go-karting for the family. Hereford Squash and Tennis and Racket club welcomes visitors and has a padel court. Trekking with the llames in the Black Mountains is popular.
Visits to Hay on Wye are loved by book lovers. For those who enjoy a cathedral and history the Mappa Mundi in Hereford is a must. The Small Rare Breeds Farm at Kington is loved by young and old. Garden lovers will find a huge variety of National Trust Gardens to visit plus plenty in the National Gardens Scheme. The Weir Gardens are 4 miles away.
Monnington House and Garden Cottage welcome guests from all over the UK because of its central location in England. We also have a large group of overseas guests who visit us regularly.
