One of the many 'hoods of Seoul, it's a sensational base for sussing out all that this city has to offer. One of the best bits of travelling is the people you meet on the way. And with 10,300,000 people living in the capital of South Korea, there's tonnes of opportunities to make a few new BFFs. After hitting the tarmac and collecting your bags at Gimpo International Airport, your taxi will need to travel 11 kilometres east to get to Hongdae. From the heart of the city, it's a drive of 5 kilometres to the west.

This city isn't short on impressive things to do, and many of them can be found near Hongdae. It's a challenge to choose the best attractions, but Dongdaemun Market and Gyeongbok Palace are two you won't want to miss. Don't forget to put the National Museum and the Sungnyemun Gate on your checklist too. While you're here, consider going to a few other neighbourhoods to taste more of what Seoul has to offer. Mapo and Shinchon are great recommendations that are close by.

The COEX Convention and Exhibition Center is one of those attractions that needs to be seen to be believed. Just 9 kilometres from the centre of the city, you have no excuse to miss it.
