Overall the stay was comfortable and fairly priced. The grade 2 listed is of great standing and looks. While you walk around this Tudor house and grounds feeling you’re brushing with the past. The food, is of a great standard and size. The down side to our weekend here, was being woken up at 11.30ish with the sound of the bar emptying its bottles in the collection bin and the same thing Sunday morning at 7.30. No thoughts of quietly. The second night kept awake by the neighbouring bedroom left the bathroom light on and the extractor fan droned all night, which I only realised it was them, after they got up and used the bathroom and turned it off. A polite notice in the rooms to prevent this would be very courteous, to other residents.
Beautiful hotel with lovely service
One recommendation is the lighting in the restaurant needs turning down for evening as too bright and takes away from gorgeous ambiance
Property was dated, lack light in the public areas and felt like a conference centre rather than a hotel. I also dont believe we got the superior room I booked as it seemed like a basic double.

Pleasantly surprised
Beautiful hotel in stunning surroundings. Professional staff and lovely food
Felt a bit like hotels used to be many years ago, separate carpark away from hotel with no umbrellas so got soaked getting to and from car, was told room as my ready so advised to go elsewhere only to revive a call within ten mins to say it was ready, the bar are should have been nice but was freeing cold with the fire not lit
Staff all seemed a bit vacant, no one was sure what menu was available and we were given stone cold coffee at breakfast
No lifts, so had to dodge the buckets catching water all up the stairs from the leaking roof
This hotel is in a lovely setting in a stunning building. Unfortunately there was a large wedding the night we stayed and our room was directly above the nighttime disco!
The music went on until midnight. When I mentioned our poor nights sleep at reception when we checked out next morning I was assured that someone would be in touch. Despite contacting them again no one has responded.
If you are going to stay here make sure you ask for a quiet room!
The property itself is stunning and grounds are fabulous but our family room had a shower with only one temperature setting and window that didn’t open (we only realised at 11pm when our 4 year old woke up hot!) I mentioned these on check out to get someone to look at it.
There was also an issue getting food , we asked to book a table in the afternoon but was told the restaurant was full and subsequently when we went to the bar it was full of people having drinks waiting for dinner. I believe the hotel was full of people on a conference but as a family of 3 with a small child we needed to get a meal. On complaining we were served in the bar but I feel that hotel residents should not have to go to such lengths to eat particularly as a family hotel.
We booked this hotel as the rate at the Four Seasons, where we had been invited to a reception, was rather excessive. Comparing the two, actually Elvetham was a lot nicer. Why? Because it had a huge amount of history and was full of character. Four seasons was of course top quality, but at the end just another modern hotel. The staff at both were very helpful. but here Elvetham had the edge here as well. They were so good. Well done to Elvetham!
