Excellent! Your annual leave's been approved. Now all that's left to do is wave goodbye to the daily grind for a while and book your trip to Ichinoki — ASAP!

The nation's capital city, Tokyo, can be found roughly 230 kilometres to the south of Ichinoki.

Take a long, deep breath and immerse yourself in the natural surroundings of Bandai-Asahi National Park. It lies 12 kilometres away from Ichinoki. You can also experience a bit of peace and quiet at Mount Gozu, 40 kilometres away.

Powder hounds won't regret staying in Ichinoki, as it provides access to Zao Hot Springs Ski Resort and Alts Bandai Ski Resort. Just don't forget to pack plenty of layers! These snowy wonderlands can get seriously chilly.

If you're looking to expand your horizons, add a day trip to Kitakata to your travel plan. This locality is 6 kilometres to the east and is the home of the Yamatogawa Sake Brewing Museum and Nicchu Memorial Museum. Want some more ideas? Aizubange-machi is 17 kilometres to the south of Ichinoki and is proud to offer the Shojoji Temple and the Yanaizu Municipal Saito Kiyoshi Museum.

You may feel the urge to book a hotel room in Kitashiobara for a while. This place is 25 kilometres away and quite close to Bandai 3D World, Goshikinuma Lakes and the Bandaisan Onsen. Some other nearby attractions are the Herb Space Bandia and Lake Hibara.

To really experience a destination is to try its food and drink, so prepare to nibble, gnaw, slurp and sip your way across Fukushima. The only thing you need to bring with you is a healthy appetite!

Curious about the surprises that'll wind up on your plate? There's a high chance they'll include beef, noodles or even both.

When Ichinoki locals talk to you about their favourite food, you'll probably hear tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) or jappa-jiru (fish gut and vegetable soup) mentioned once or twice. These signature dishes are an important part of the region and should be on any foodie's must-try list.

You may be eating your way into a bigger set of trousers, but anpan (sweet roll) is worth every last calorie. This favourite dessert will have your taste buds tingling with just a glance.

Are you ready for a drink? Shout yourself to a round of Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen, a beer that needs to be on your bucket (or pint) list.

In a fancy cocktail or straight up — the bartender should know the best way to enjoy a glass of junmaishu. If the evening begs for something with a bit more of a punch, it should be the first drink you order!

Blend in with your hosts by taking the time to learn a handful of expressions in the local language. You'll be glad you learnt 'Wakarimasen', which translates to 'I don't understand'. Perhaps you'll find 'O-namae wa nan desu ka' easier to say? This means 'what's your name?'.

Celebrated throughout the country, Birthday of Emperor Akihito happens each year on the 23rd of December. If you're fortunate enough to be here at this time, it'll be difficult not to get swept up in the exciting atmosphere!

Before you pack up and wave "Sayōnara", why not spend the last bits of your holiday allowance and buy yourself some lasting reminders of Ichinoki?

When the time arrives to pack your suitcase and head back home, the nearest terminal, Narita International Airport (NRT), is 220 kilometres to the south.
