Holidays in Isabel

Adventure. Relaxation. Adventure. Relaxation. Off to Isabel but can't figure out what type getaway you want? Don't get in a fluster! We'll help sort it out.

The nation's capital, Manila, is situated about 560 kilometres to the northwest of Isabel.

Is there anything nicer than listening to the sounds of the local bird life on the shoreline? Visit Guimbitayan Beach or Bounty Beach for a memorable day out.

Break free on a trip to some surrounding natural attractions. 30 kilometres out of Isabel, Lake Danao National Park is all yours to explore. Sambawan Island, 50 kilometres away, is another superb spot to hang out in the outdoors.

Seize the opportunity to visit other nearby sights, such as Philippine-Japan Peace Memorial Park and WWII Veterans' & Centennial Park. These are situated 20 kilometres northeast in Ormoc. Not ready to give back the rental car just yet? Maktang Beach and the Puertobello Port are in Poro Island, 25 kilometres to the south of Isabel.

A couple of hours outside can quieten the mind. If you're feeling a bit worn out, why not slow down and go shore fishing or beach combing?

Eager for some fun on the water? Then lather on your suntan lotion and have a go at some swimming or snorkeling.

Walk through the region's craft workshops. They are excellent places to visit when the weather takes a turn.

Pack your camera and make your way to one of the surrounding area's lovely outdoor attractions. Its open-air markets are just waiting to be explored.

Enjoy some insight into the area's secrets by exploring some of the nearby traditional villages and old towns. If a tour guide isn't available, ensure you do some of your own research.

Your eyes shouldn't get to have all the fun while visiting Visayan Islands. Give your taste buds a little love as well by digging into some of the local food and drink. After all, you can't say you've truly experienced a destination until you've tasted its flavours.

If you're flicking through a menu, there's every chance you'll come across dishes with guava or prawns. They're just some ingredients which are typically used in the kitchens here.

No food-loving traveller would leave Isabel without tucking into at least one of the signature dishes, such as batchoy (pork offal noodles) and sinigang (hot and sour soup).

Dessert is always OK on holiday, so why not treat yourself to some utap (puff pastry)? It's worth every scrumptious calorie!

You won't get the full travelling experience until you've tossed back the local beer. Whether you want to satisfy your thirst or get some liquid courage to meet new people, order San Miguel Premium All-Malt Beer.

For something a little stronger, ask for a couple of shots of gin. Drink it by itself or ask your barkeep for mixed-drink recommendations.

Held each year on the 12th of June, Independence Day occupies a special place in the locals' hearts and minds. It offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the nation's past and kick up your heels while you're at it!

It's always a pity when you have to head home. However, your time in the magnificent Visayan Islands region will have made you richer, no matter how much of your holiday budget you have left over.

With some preparation, getting to Mactan - Cebu International Airport (CEB), the nearest airport, shouldn't be too hard. It's around 85 kilometres to the southwest of downtown Isabel.
