It is simple to get around the Island either by car, taxi or bus, which incidentally drive on the right-hand side. The Capital St Johns is home of the cruise liners and international shopping can be found in the totally restored Heritage Quay and Redcliff Quay. Only a few yards away you walk back into history with the old character filled buildings and streets. In the countryside the many abandoned sugar mills act as a reminder of bygone age. Nelsons dockyard is a fully restored working harbour which has won many awards and only a short distance away is Shirley heights and its colonial fort - here there are stunning views over both the sea and countryside. Worth a visit is Betty's Hope which was Antigua’s first sugar estate, some restoration of the ruins has taken place and the Mill is now totally intact. All guests are provided with our “Insiders Guide to Antigua” complied by the owners from over 15 years of experience of visiting the island.
