"Roughin" it at Hotel Patrick
First of all, Hotel Patrick is right adjacent to the fishing beach and a national monument. The staff is warm and friendly and the recommended restaurant is excellent. They have a small outdoor weight area for use, if you want to get some exercise in, and the Internet access is excellent - much better than at The Dunes resort, where I was supposed to stay. The town plaza is quite close and the small town atmosphere really gives you a sense of the island. That said, this nine room hotel is very basic - my first night, I stayed in a room with only a fan and lots of mosquitoes! I stayed inside of my netting and still got eaten alive. You need to be ready to purchase food at adjacent restaurants and/or have ready-to-eat items. It is a bit noisy at night - ear plugs, maybe? So, with the right attitude, this can be a great place to stay because it is really Irie and the staff is very friendly. If you want a more luxury experience, you need to try another location..
