The country's capital, Athens, lies 220 kilometres to the south of Kalamitsi.

Sitting 100 kilometres to the northeast, Paradise Beach is a perfect spot to spend an afternoon strolling along the shore. Lalaria Beach also offers visitors some lovely scenery. You'll find this enticing stretch of coastline 95 kilometres to the northeast.

Could you do with a day out in nature? Pull out your car keys and check out Mount Athos, 35 kilometres away from Kalamitsi. You can also get out into the fresh air at Pefkochori Lagoon, 30 kilometres away.

Go 20 kilometres to the northwest and you'll come across Sithonia. It's home to some recommended attractions, such as Porto Carras Beach and the Porto Carras Winery.

Want to check out Skiti Agiou Andreou, Moni Agiou Panteleimonos and Moni Xiropotamou? Head over to Mount Athos, 35 kilometres to the northeast, and set up base. These attractions, as well as Moni Koutloumousiou and Moni Xenofondos, are all close by.

To really experience a place is to taste its food and drink, so get set to nibble, gnaw, slurp and sip your way through Central Macedonia. The only thing you need to bring with you is a good appetite!
