Holidays in Kampong Thom

Your last holiday feel like it was centuries ago? No worries — book a ticket to Kampong Thom and you'll be off before you know it!

It's 110 kilometres north of Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital city.

Kampong Thom is within close reach of some exceptional natural attractions. Ream National Park is 16 kilometres away and is well worth a wander around.

Want to venture outwards a bit? Bronze Lake is 2 kilometres to the south of Kampong Thom and Skun is 50 kilometres to the south. Hop in the car and discover what's happening out there!

Whether it's for a bit of shopping or to take in the sights, travellers often head over to Kampong Cham, 65 kilometres to the southeast. Old French Lighthouse, Koh Paen and the Wat Nokor are all within a stone's throw. Of course, you shouldn't miss out on Kampong Cham Riverside Park and the Cambodia University for Specialties either.

There's a world full of fantastic flavours waiting to two-step across your taste buds in Kampong Thom. With so many decadent things to eat and drink, all you need to bring with you is a robust appetite — and perhaps your stretchiest slacks.

Traditional cuisine here often includes rice and noodles, two of the staple ingredients for which this part of the world is famous for dishing up.

While you're in Kampong Thom, dine like the locals do. That means tucking into a plate of bai sach chrouk (pork and rice) or kuy teav (noodle soup), some of the area's classic dishes.

You might be eating your way into a larger pair of trousers, but fried bananas is certainly worth it. This favourite dessert will make your taste buds tingle at the mere sight of it.

For fans of a good pint, get comfortable at a nearby bar and request Bayon. It's best enjoyed alongside some storytelling and mingling with the locals.

Held each year on the 9th of November, Independence Day holds an important place in the locals' hearts and minds. It offers a great chance to learn about the country's past and have a little fun while you're at it!

Located 110 kilometres to the south is Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH), the closest terminal. Make sure you give yourself ample time to get there.
