During my two-week trip to Japan, one of the most memorable experiences was our stay at Hotel Indigo Karuizawa, An IHG Hotel. The experience was excellent, with warm and welcoming staff. The rooms were spotless and more spacious than others we stayed in. While the location wasn’t as central, with having attractions within walking distance, it was conveniently close to the mall and train station via taxi. Although we didn’t get a chance to try the on-site restaurant, the onsen was a standout feature and a key reason we chose this hotel, despite it being the most expensive of our trip. Out of the six hotels we stayed in, this was definitely one of our favorites, and I highly recommend it.
The hotel staff is great and provided very good service. The room is small and thought it might be in a little better condition and be a little more luxurious as the website seems to be a bit deceiving when booking. If you add breakfast to your rate, it’s really a good breakfast with options, but not a buffet, which was preferred for us, and the food is very good. Good service at the restaurant. Good amenities as far as free coffee/tea for the morning and nice social hour in the evening. Good location as it’s close to Shinjuku Station with subway access and train access. Good shopping just one stop away at Shinjuku Sanchome.
Hotel is beautifully designed: peaceful, zen like, modern and sophisticated. Staff and service excellent. Breakfast buffet was wonderful with wide array of choices. Dinner was outstanding.
Beautiful rooms and friendly hotel staff except for a few things….
The bidet nozzle was covered in black mold like it had never been cleaned. It might sound trivial but if you’re spending $500 a night, you expect it to be spotless.
Service at the on-site restaurant was unorganized and aloof. On the night we went, the restaurant wasn’t busy and had many tables open but we were given the table closest to the door on a below freezing night.
We had to flag a server down after 10 minutes once seated to get menus and take our drink order. They messed up a simple request of a burger with no cheese and the refire took almost 20 minutes at which point my dish was stone cold waiting for my wife’s to arrive.
The maître d asked how everything was and when we explained we still hadn’t received my wife’s dish, he got a little annoyed and just said “it’s coming.” Why ask if you aren’t even willing to check or expedite?
The property landscape is very pretty and the onsen is great. Slightly far from the city centre but shuttle is available. Taxi is also an alternative and the fare won't be too expensive.
Stunning hotel. The room was new, clean and spacious. With balcony overlooking a forest and creek. The staff was nice and attentive. The shuttle to the train station convenient.
The hotel looks pretty new, nice design, modern and relaxing, definitely a comfortable place to relax and enjoy the nature around Karuizawa, without being too far from the city, the staff was very friendly and the facilities pretty good, food at the Kangari restaurants pretty nice too.
